Daniel Rains was one of the inmates in the Fiorina “Fury” 161 Class C Work Correctional Unit and stayed on after Weyland-Yutani had closed the prison down.
Rains was killed by the Xenomorph when he was surveying the tunnels beneath the prison. Rains appears in 1992’s Alien 3 and is played by Christopher John Fields.
Rains was incarcerated on Fiorina 161 for drug trafficking offenses and received a life sentence.
Ripley’s Arrival on Fiorina 161
An EEV, ejected from the USS Sulaco, carrying Ellen Ripley, Corporal Hicks, Newt and Bishop the android crashed onto Fiorina 161 in 2179. There was just one survivor – Ellen Ripley.
After the funeral for Newt and Hicks, Boggs, Golic and Rains were given the task of surveying the tunnels beneath the prison.
In the mess hall, Boggs, Rains and Golic are eating at the same table when Dillon joins them. Dillon asks Boggs and Rains about what the problem is. They say they don’t mind surveying the tunnels but they don’t want to take Golic with them. Boggs says that Golic is crazy and he smells bad. Dillon tells them that Golic is going with them.
In the tunnels, the three of them begin surveying the tunnels and lay candles along the way so they can find their way back. When some of the candles start going out, Boggs sends Rains to find out what’s happening. Rains is attacked by the Xenomorph and Golic and Boggs arrive to see the creature mauling him. They run and accidentally circle back and find Rain’s body before the Xenomorph appears.
Personality and Traits
Like Boggs, Rains disliked Golic and made it clear he didn’t want to be anywhere near him, even insulting him in his presence.
Alien 3 Novelization (1992 Novel)
In the Alien 3 novelization by Alan Dean Foster, Rains appears as in the film. The novelization mostly follows the same path as the Alien 3 Assembly Cut. The book makes it clear that Boggs and Rains are in the tunnels looking for supplies. In the film, it seems like they are just mapping out the tunnel system.
Alien 3 Comic (1992 Comic)
The Alien 3 Comic is a mixture of the theatrical and assembly cut with some new additions.
