Updated: The Alien & Ellen Ripley Come to Dead by Daylight on August 29th!

As promised by the teaser announcement last week, Behavior Interactive have given us the details regarding the upcoming Alien chapter for their asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight. The ‘Survivor’ for the chapter has been revealed as Ellen Ripley, as most expected. Though Ripley does have voice lines, it does not appear that Sigourney Weaver lent her voice or likeness to the character for this release. A Nostromo map will also be added to the game with this chapter.

A new trailer for the upcoming chapter has also been released, check it out below!

The trailer shows Ripley awakening from her hypersleep pod, right into another nightmare. The Nostromo has remanifested after its destruction, now crashed onto the surface of LV-426 within the ‘Entity’s Realm,’ the ethereal alternate dimension where survivors and killers are transported to in the world of Dead by Daylight. The Derelict ship looms in the background and Jonesy the cat is featured as well.

Dead by Daylight features powers, perks, and add-ons that affect the dynamics of a match. As part of their recent patch notes for the Alien chapter, Behavior Interactive has detailed these abilities for both characters, as well as given us a description for the Nostromo map:

New Killer – The Xenomorph

The Alien & Ellen Ripley Come to Dead by Daylight on August 29th!Killer Power
Hidden Pursuit

A series of tunnels become available on the map when the Xenomorph is in play. By accessing a Control Station, it can enter these tunnels to quickly move around the map, detect the presence of nearby Survivors, and speed up the cooldown time of its Runner Mode ability. Exiting a Control Station tags nearby Survivors with Killer Instinct.

Special Ability: Runner Mode

The Xenomorph enters Runner Mode automatically when not on cooldown. In Runner Mode, the Xenomorph walks on four legs and becomes stealthier, reducing its Terror Radius. While in Runner Mode the Xenomorph also has access to a brutal Tail Attack.

Map Feature: Control Stations

Seven Control Stations are scattered across the map. Survivors can interact with these stations to get a Remote Flame Turret, while the Xenomorph can enter and exit the tunnels underneath the Control Stations.

Special Item: Remote Flame Turret

Turrets can be placed in the map to counteract the Xenomorph. When the Xenomorph enters the radius and line of sight of a Turret, the Turret attacks; this attack staggers the Xenomorph and will cause Runner Mode to end. If a Turret successfully knocks the Xenomorph out of Runner Mode or fires for too long, it overheats, and must be repaired by a Survivor. The Xenomorph can attack Turrets to destroy them.

Perks
Ultimate Weapon
When you open a locker, this perk activates for 30 seconds. Survivors entering your Terror Radius scream and reveal their position and gain Blindness for 30 seconds. This perk then goes on cooldown for 40/35/30 seconds.

Rapid Brutality
You can no longer gain Bloodlust. Hitting a Survivor with a basic attack gives you 5% haste for 8/9/10 seconds.

Alien Instinct
This perk activates when you hook a Survivor. You see the aura of the farthest injured Survivor for 5 seconds and that Survivor is oblivious for 16/18/20 seconds.

New Survivor – Ellen Ripley

The Alien & Ellen Ripley Come to Dead by Daylight on August 29th!Perks
Lucky Star
When you hide in a locker, this perk activates. You leave no pools of blood and make no grunts of pain for 10 seconds. When you exit the locker, you see other survivors and the closest generator’s aura in yellow for 10 seconds. This perk then goes on cooldown for 40/35/30 seconds.

Chemical Trap
After completing 70%/60%/50% progress on any generator, this perk activates. While standing next to a dropped pallet, press the Active Ability Button 2 to install a Trap, which stays active for 100/110/120 seconds. The aura of trapped pallets are revealed in yellow to all Survivors. When the Killer performs the break action on the trapped pallet, the trap explodes, and they are slowed by 50% for 4 seconds.

Light Footed
When you are healthy, this perk activates. Your running footsteps are silent. This perk goes on cool-down for 28/24/20 seconds after doing a rushed action.

New Map – Nostromo Wreckage

The Alien & Ellen Ripley Come to Dead by Daylight on August 29th!Explore the mysterious crash site of the iconic Nostromo. Visit landmarks familiar to the fans of the Alien franchise, in a unique setting where you will find yourself chased in and out of the ship. Run the Killer around the shuttle that brought Ripley to the world of the Entity. Navigate through the alien landscape, and you may yet escape from the remains of the wrecks.

Before a new chapter launches for DBD, a public test build (PTB) becomes active for a few weeks to see if any last minute balance tweaks are needed. If you own the game on PC, you can play as the Xenomorph and Ellen Ripley right now! Access the PTB by enabling the Beta version of the game within your Steam options. We’ll be streaming some of the game before long to check out this chapter.

Another big feature of Dead by Daylight is its selection of cosmetic options for its characters. After the chapter officially launches on August 29th, it’s likely we’ll get alternate skins for both Ripley and the Alien.

Very unlikely to be it, usually when DBD gets a new character that isn't original the collection that comes along is based on the first original entries of the franchise (Cybil and Alessa for Cheryl, Chatterer for Pinhead, Classic skins for Jill and Leon), remember, Ripley is getting 2 skins that are meant to fit with the 2 skins that Alien is also getting, so it's probably both the Lieutenant and Newt's Rescue look for Ripley + Warrior and Queen for Alien
They save the more weird and sometimes original skins for their Halloween events, we might see a "Blight" Xenomorph around October, like some of the last Licensed Killers.

Queen is all but confirmed, the DBD Alien is taller than a Praetorian and the small arms are animated for it's in power animations.

Also, Queen will most likely have a completely different animation set for the lobby and walking animations, as the arms aren't animated or simply disappear during those. This also happens with the mori, the only time where the arms are animated are during the Runner Mode anims

Overall I feel better about the chapter rn, still a bit disappointed at the lack of facehuggers and cocooning with the power, could have been at the very least a cosmetic thing with the hooks, and yes it is more than feasible within the game, look at The Pig from Saw or The Executioner/Pyramid Head's power. A theory I saw is that big licenses have simpler to use powers so more casual gamers can get into the game.
Interested to see how they'll do the Queen skin, since it will likely be Hadley's Hope Queen she will be downsized by about 15% (the ingame Alien is a oversized Stompy, even tho lorewise he is Big Chap/Kane's son.)

Even then the characters would still stay in the game though, even if their deal fell apart. The Stranger Things characters are still playable if you got them before a certain point, you just can't buy them or their cosmetics anymore, or play on their map.

And with any luck nothing like that will end up happening again.

Quote from: Mike's Monsters on Aug 09, 2023, 05:38:02 PMI pop in and play this game quite rarely, so I can't say I'm an expert. But a lot of the things you guys are asking for is not as easy or "lazy" as you're making it out to be. This isn't an ALIEN game. It's a game with an ALIEN themed mode. It's built to be its own game first, so a lot of the tiny little things being asked for would be so much extra work or re-coding that it isn't necessary.

Plus, as some mentioned, visual consistency through different levels/modes is important. If I haven't played in a long time and pop onto a new map and everything I need to use looks different, because it now has to look like it's from the ALIEN universe or something, I'm gonna get confused and probably not play due to it getting too visually complicated. If this was a dedicated ALIEN game, yes, absolutely make things look like ALIEN.

A few of you are literally asking for entire game mechanics to be reworked, when you think it's just replacing a visual asset. Xenos crawling on the walls for example, is like nothing any other character would do, which would mean they have to build something brand new from the ground up. Takes time, testing and money, which this DLC is probably not funding a ton of.

The fact that we even got a Xeno in DBD is awesome. But it feels like a lot of you are complaining that a Xenomorph can dance and use guns in Fortnite... because that's the game and how it's played.

this the realest take that on the whole forum. game development is HARD and the culture of 'armchair dev gamers' needs to stop. I've been seeing so many tweet threads from game devs correcting fans in their assumptions of how game studios spent their resources.

I've got maybe 4 or 5 hours into DbD and its gonna be fun to plug out a few dozen more on the Xeno

ehh, the tunnels aren't that useful for sneaking up on people, neither is the smaller terror radius (it's 24 meters, pretty big still), so much so the community wants them to make his terror radius even smaller on live

What personally disappointed me is the lack of focus in Stealth and no special hook mechanic like what Pyramid Head has, I know how the game works and I'm close to 2k hours in it, I just feel like there were missed opportunities

Anyway, Alien is likely getting a Queen skin according to datamining showng that its animation skeleton has an extra pair of small arms

Quote from: Simply_Kevin on Aug 09, 2023, 02:21:03 PMGuys who don't play DbD: Certain objects will always have the same look because they're not naturally from the map. In the game's lore, there's an evil called The Entity and it draws survivors and killers into this realm where they are in trials facing each other. They need to escape by fixing generators until the gates are powered. It also places lockers and pallets around the maps, so they always look the same.
Meta reason: these objects need to be quickly identifiable by the survivors as interactive so they can use them during chases to lose the killer. If every map had different looking interactive objects (specially maps that already have similar objects that aren't interactive) it would be too confusing. This is not an Alien game. It's an Alien chapter inside another game with its own rules. It's not "laziness".
Knight's map has unique models for lockers, chests, pallets and breakable walls actually

Eeeee... This feels like a wasted opportunity for having it cocoon victims instead of hooking or using facehuggers from relocated eggs, like Amanda Young does with her traps. Why not also allow it to go on walls and ceilings? They kept hinting a character was coming up who could do.

And if it's running at high speed, it should be less stealthier, not more.

Seems like they wasted a lot of potential to make this as unique as it could have been.

Stuff which causes survivors to scream if they're in a terror radius is typically useless. If you're in that range, you're already chasing them, regardless. Like, it's fun for atmophere, but effectively pointless.

    Gameplay footage:

Strange that there are wooden closets and stairs, the usual crows and things?

I've been watching streams of this chapter since it became available. Everything looks amazing! The only thing I'm not really happy with is the animation used in the game menu when you select the Xeno is the same from Alien Isolation when it comes out of the vent in a twirl. It feels copy + pasted and it's not from any movie so I'm not comfortable with it.
