NECA and Prime 1 Studio Announce Alien: Romulus Collectibles!

Collectible producers NECA and Prime 1 Studio have both made an Alien Day announcement on their social channels that they are working on merchandise for the upcoming Alien: Romulus.

The companies have each released teaser videos for their future offerings which you can view below!

Prime 1:

NECA:

The teasers don’t show much really so we don’t really know what these figures and statues will be yet. We expect to see more around the release of the film. There is a quick flash in the Prime 1 video that appears to be facehugger fingers so perhaps that will be their upcoming statue.

In other collectible news, NECA has also announced a new variant of their Feral Predator from Prey. This one started appearing on Target store shelves before they revealed it. This version recreates the look of the cloaked Predator covered in blood after its bear kill in the film.

I mean, if it's on the practical puppet they used... Then yep. It's not like the camera focuses or holds on that part of the dome though. We've seen it a little in the trailers if you look close enough.

When I saw the Scorched practical puppet in person, I could clearly see the skull beneath the dome. So I'm assuming NECA is going off of what they scanned from he puppet, and saw what I saw.
Fair enough, it just looks so foggy in the trailers like big chap. Also just a personal thing, but I definitely would like it better without the stripes on the dome.

doesn't look like it fits all that nicely in the head, it almost looks removable, which is something that bothered me in their bigchaps and covenants aliens
As Mike said it would probably Look better In the final product
The last Prototype we saw from Neca got worse on release so I'm not hyping myself up for this one
    Oh yeah, you're right. Stompy.
whats was differnt with thevstimpy prototype, wasnt it the Neca big chap sculpt but with diferent legs?

How is Todd McFarlane able to release so many new Batman figures every month? I know his figures lack alot of paint detail but the sculpting and articulation is ususly pretty good and are more playable than Neca. And unlike neca I haven't had to soak one of Batmans joints or scrap paint/glaze out either. His older stuff looked cool but are as brittle as a craker. Why wiuld they use hard translucent plastic for a joint? I have almost all of the original movie maniac aliens and predstors and only the resurrection drone' and grid are still intact. My P2 Predator is mostly ok exept for the glue coming apart on the spear. His big chap is ok but the pegs on the base havs snapped off and afewvdetails on the predator aswell.

Quote from: Mike's Monsters on Jul 13, 2024, 10:33:38 PMCould be the low paid person assembling the figure in the factory having a bad day and not doing a great job, could have been a hot factory, the assembly worker not lining up the mould correctly, materials being used may be cheaper due to higher costs of production due to inflation. Many, many possible factors. I've got a video coming about this kind of stuff in a month or so.

I'm talking about the sculpts, not the release products.

That could be the sculptor given the project very last minute and having a short deadline while having to get out 15 other sculpts in the same timeline. Not trying to defend NECA or anything here, just that there are many factors that could lead to the issues you speak of. Most companies have their own little issues like this, but there's always a reason. Humans can make mistakes at times. If possible, they are scanning the actual suits at times, so it could have been the suit that was mismatched and not symmetrical. But could you give examples of the exact figures that have these issues for my clarity?
  7. Cosmic Incubation
yeah I have some minor critiques on some of their Alien sculpts, but I give NECA a good amount of leeway cause they're very affordable for how relatively high quality their figures are.

I think that prototype looks really good tho actually. Can't wait to add to the collection.

With how much it costs for toy companies to make this stuff, and how they are assembled, it is a miracle the figures cost this low, and look this close to accurate, especially with inflation around the world. When I started working in the toy industry I had my eyes opened and mind blown about what it takes to get a figure from concept and then into the customer's hand.

  12. Mike’s Monsters
This is far from representative of the final version, it doesn't even have full cuts for articulation that work and move yet. This is literally just a sculpture of what will likely be coming down the road. Basically just a little statue, a first draft. Plus, the dome may be something that has skull details underneath it, hence why it looks like it can separate. Not a good piece or image to judge what the final piece will end up looking like. Many tweaks can be made between now and release. It's far from being ready to be shown to the public here, this is either just a calculated tease, or full on leak.

Very rarely do the final products end up looking just like the resin prototypes. As the plastic moulds can't hold as much detail as the sculpted resin prototypes can. No company ever has 100% accuracy to from their prototype to actual public release of a figure. And also expecting 100% accuracy on a $40-$50 figure is incredibly unrealistic.

Have you seen the figures from Neca?

I have not, but had been told a few months ago that the Xeno was 3D scanned at Legacy Effects by NECA to start sculpting the figure.

Good, that means it should be detailed quite well and have accurate proportions to the puppet at least. The possibility of better proportions is what excites me the most. Hope this figure will be one of their best Alien ones.
