Alien Remake/Origin Story In The Works

Well, the word “sigh” comes to mind. Following on with Predators, Fox are going even further by remaking Alien according to Bloody Disgusting. What a lovely 30th anniversary gift. Thanks guys:

“Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and even Tony Scott are all on board to produce and have tapped Carl Rinsch to get beyond the camera and bring a new Ripley to the big screen. Who is Carl Rinsch? I’m being told he’s a commercial/music video director and does work for Scott Free Productions, who is also producing the remake.”

I suppose that Ridley being on board is a good thing but…damn. I do not want this. You can read more details over at Bloody Disgusting. Thanks to Zwecky for the news.

EDIT: They updated their article with: We just heard from a separate reliable source that Fox is possibly working on an origins story, as opposed to a straight-up remake. Still…

    well, Neon, Ridley and his bro' IS involved with the new remake prequel "Alien". they're working together. whose not? not US? Your call now.Even though i read the storyline on aliens novel. its really the opening, and can't really say to anyone whats the storyline. well, almost not everyone.

    Im all up for a prequel to alien, providing the story is epic. If Ripley & Cameron were behind this project, then it could be something great, i agree with some comments about ruining the mystery of 'the pilot' (space jockey) but I think providing its done well, the whole thing, story, script, cast, director etc then it could be fantastic!

    Hey guys let's do this why don't we send to FOX a lot of suggestions since they are goint to f**k up this franchise too...maybe they can keep it in mind like.   An alien musical ..broadway style with exploding chestbusters singing and predators dancing,  :o   why not an alien soap opera ..NO WAIT even better Alien vs ugly betty.. cool.  Why not I mean they are going to f**k this up anyway.

    I must be honest.....this is pathetic.....not the news (Granted, the news is still pathetic) No, i mean the reaction to the news. People, its just a movie, just pretend it doesnt exist.....Thought i cant blame you for feeling this way, its not that big of a deal.

    I've paid attention to this series far more so than any healthy human should and I can't help but feel a little disgusted at Hollywoods general lack of creativity nowadays, and a vague excitement........  sigh.

    In the the second Alien movie "Aliens"... I like to Imagine that the crashed Alien ship near the start was a Predator ship with a Predator pilot. The Predators planned on using the colony for their ritual, but they died in the crash. And the Aliens were left to roam free.  Theres so much that can be done with Alien and Predator. Just need the right guy to come up with something. Bring back James Cameron!!!

    If they're going to remake this, they better change the hell out of it and not involve the same characters.  Remakes like The Omen, Psycho, and Amityville Horror are pointless and insulting.  If they give us another Nostromo, another Ripley, another first encounter with the same crew, basically the same script but with added modern flare, it's like saying they can do better than Ridley did it the first time.  I'm hoping the new Alien and Predator are very different from the old series, so they can be set apart.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't the origin of the xenomorph been explored in the comics and graphic novels? It involved Ripley and a ragtag bunch of marines and dreamers and they went to the Aliens' planet in search of the Queen of Queens and had a really awesome story.  If that is what Fox is talking about, they'd better get a visionary to lens it and not some half-assed commercial/music video wanker director.

    A new Ripley?... Yeeeeeah, don't think so. Don't need to see some "hot" teen encounter Aliens years before she encounters one... for the first time... What kinda memory erasing BS they gonna try there? And a music video director taking on ALIEN?... Why don't you just kill us all now and get it over with, Fox?! Who's gonna be the new Ripley?     Hollywood saw the success of the Batman reboot series, and now want to cash in.  Fox is notorious for recently putting nothing but garbage movies out. The fact that Scott is involved is the only hope we may have to a credible Alien film being made.  If its a reboot I hate that idea. If its an origins story...well that is a little better.

    be interesting to see how they deal with the space jockey or jockeys if thats going to be one of the main patrts of the film. cant see it being very good, but atleast ridley scott is on it, so u never know... see wa they come up with    ;)

    "thats the way the Predalien breeds, its diffrent yes. but they cant do the same shit or they get riddiculed, they do something diffrent they get riddiculed."  No, see, I'm not ridiculing them because they're doing something different, I'm ridiculing because what they came up with was just pathetic, completely and utterly vile.  It wasn't frightening, it was hilarious, it was so cheap, it was so pathetic the way they tried to portray it as frightening, instead it was just hilariously awful.  It was bad, it was really bad.  It looked so cheap and tacky, it was just so frigging bad.   It was so bad, that my mind actually blocked that scene from my head until I was reminded of it.  The whole concept is so goddamn awful.  And I'm saying the concept for this new alien film "origin story" is flawed, because it can *not* be done well, it simply can't, no matter who does it, or in what way.  There is no plausible way that it can be done well, because the very idea destroys what made the franchise good in the first place.   Any other alien film, a sequel, hell, I'll even take a remake over an "origin story".

    @ "Me" - "if it has an alien in it, it's going to be good" Did you actually watch AvP-R?  If you thought that was good, you have absolutely no respect for the Alien franchise, or good films at all for that matter.  That hospital scene, with the tongue, really? Honestly?    :-\    And at "you're still going to see it so what's the difference" - the difference is, whether I go to see a good film, or a bad film.  And in all likelihood I'm going to look at some reviews and see whether I actually pay to see it or if I decide Fox don't deserve my money, and I spitefully pirate it instead.

    The only thing I could actually support is, as Peteysodes said, a new story arc, brand new characters, keeping with canon of the original Alien films.  Stop flogging the current story arc horse, it's been dead a long time.  Something completely isolated, Alien eggs discovered in a completely different location unconnected to LV-426 (obviously still in space though), but they ultimately result in the same thing - Alien starts om nom nomming on humans, a struggle between those who want to keep it alive for study and those who want to kill it - and somehow keep it fresh and surprising. I'm sure there are 100 ways that an Alien can kill a human that we've not yet seen before.  I think it's possible, but we'll never see it, because it's phenomenally difficult to do that without making it feel old and predictable.

    A reboot is a ridiculous notion. And an origin story would just ruin the mystery behind the Pilot and the Alien.  Better we just get another Alien movie set in the timeframe of the first three. Something gritty and dark, without clones, bullets bouncing off walls and ugly pasty white alien/human hybrids.  How hard can it be to make another Alien film without resorting to prequels and reboots?

    I also read that there's a possibility of a story focused on Ripley 8 that has no xenos in it...  I agree with the comedy space jockey thought N_K and to a certain extent your origin story point of view too.  I guess what i would like to see most would be a reboot in the line of setting up a new story arch with new characters and keeping with canon or the expanded universe set up by the DH comics.
