SAG-AFTRA Strike Ends! FX Alien Series Targets Early 2025 Release!

It’s official! After 118 days, the longest strike in the US actor’s union history, SAG-AFTRA has come to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the strike will conclude tonight right after midnight Pacific Time. This means that the FX Alien series which halted production after filming began in Thailand can resume immediately.

SAG-AFTRA Strike Ends! FX Alien Series Targets Early 2025 Release!

SAG-AFTRA announced the conclusion of the strike on their social media after a deal was struck with the studios

Shortly before this announcement, showrunner Noah Hawley talked with The Wrap on how much filming had been completed and what the plan was at the time to continue filming. He also says that the series is currently targeting the first half of 2025 for release.

“We’re all just waiting for the strike, and it will end. The plan right now is to go back in January and be shooting in February, and looks like shoot until July or so, which puts the air date somewhere in the in the first half of ’25. I was able to complete filming most of the first hour. That said, I wasn’t able to film anything with my star. So I still have the bulk of the show to film, and we have seven more hours to shoot. I certainly would have loved to get the show in front of people as quickly as possible.”

Despite the delay, Hawley expressed optimism about the series.

“It’s very exciting that I get this opportunity, with films like ‘Fargo’ or ‘Alien,’ to live within the world that was created by these directors and storytellers. It raises the hair on the back of your neck in a good way to walk onto a set where you feel like you’re on the ‘Nostromo,’”

Hawley also clarified to The Wrap that the series doesn’t take place on the Nostromo, but rather a particular set was based on its design.

“You’re like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the movie.”

You can catch a glimpse of what Hawley was referring to in a piece of concept art from the series that we exclusively shared earlier this year.

The series was able to start production despite the strike because of a rearrangement of the schedule to cover material with the UK-based ‘Equity’ union cast. With the strike ending sooner than some may have expected given the previous state of negotiations, we’ll be curious to see if the initial plan of restarting filming in Thailand will be followed or if they’ll be back at it sooner.

Gotta wait to some time in 2025 for the Alien TV series, ok gonna keep busy life goes on, we can wait. Initially I assumed that had the show been made and released in 2024 there could've been some cross promotion between Alien Romulus and the TV series, doubtful either will address one another.

I always thought this would be the case, they wont play all their Alien cards in 2024.
Interested to see the rest of the cast now that the strike is over. The casting for the villain especially.

On the one hand, it's a shame because it's still so far away, but on the other hand, I can look forward to Alien Romulus for the rest of 2024 until the series starts, which I'll then celebrate.
So...I now strongly assume that both will be good.
    ;)
If the series is bad and should be discontinued, at least a closed ending would be desirable and not an open ending like Covenant or Resurrection.

2025 absolutely works for me, with the movie coming in 2024. I don't really want to see Alien go the current Star Wars/Marvel route with overlapping releases each year.

Mostly, I'm just happy that the strikes have been resolved and in the favor of the writers and actors.

Eh... With the movie releasing in August of 24, I think it'll be beneficial to have a buffer in-between. They'll also likely be getting back to filming now sooner than Hawley was expecting.
