Aliens: Dark Descent Gameplay Release Date Trailer!

The upcoming tactical Aliens game Aliens: Dark Descent will be coming to consoles and PC on June 20, 2023! IGN have posted the Release Date Trailer with lots of new gameplay footage. The gameplay trailer starts showing a CG sequence showing the U.S.S. Otago and the Colonial Marines exploring the planet, Lethe.

The trailer then takes us to actual gameplay footage and shows us how we’ll be able to control our Marines in Aliens: Dark Descent. The footage shows off how we can customize our squad in the various environments on Planet Lethe, as we try to stop the Xenomorphs from overrunning the planet.

Developed by the French studio Tindalos Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment, Aliens Dark Descent is only a few months away from release. The squad-based tactical Aliens game will be released June 20, 2023 on PS4, PS5, X-Box One, X-Box Series S/X and PC.

This is something I hope they will do as a DLC:
You get tasked to create a successfull hive in several scenarios:
1 scenario would be you are 2-3 xenos onboard a massive WY ship which you escaped your cells and you now have to decide where to set up a nest, which doors to seal with hive resin, set up the nest on command bridge? or the engine bay? or somewhere else? each place has its advantages and disadvantages. theres no ship tracking because else it would be too easy for the marines to kill one.
1 scenario set like hadleys hope and one need to set up a hive either inside the colony or nearby caves and try and overrun the colony, but the humans will counter all decisions you do, if you dont cut communications they can request reinforcments etc.

I would love that as a dlc and be unique to play as the xenomorps. :D

You can barely hear the guy, but some new info here. First, the slowdown effect will cost some recourses, but they seem to be separate from the command points. I hope there'll be an option to use that freely in hard combat. Or at least make it more intelligent, like real adrenalin or something, if you use it, it will highten your stress etc., but I haven't seen that for now...

Second, from the gameplay, WE ACTUALLY HAVE CUTSCENES AGAIN. And it nicely shows the Alien, love it, nice movement. Though in gameplay it does move with the tiniest bit of jank. The warping dodge seems more and more to me to be a feature. I love giving Aliens the ability to dodge. Not enough Alien games do that (only AVP2010 and ACM, though better in ACM multiplayer). Here my only problem is that warping effect to the side with what seems like no animation for dodging.
The other thing, it seems from the trailers and now this footage that the special ability of the Warrior is a leap/pounce attack. Maybe the Runner's one is the tail whip judging from other videos.

That's it for my analysis for now! We also know form the first ever footage that there will be at least one Queen and Crusher to fight (since there was text that noted that a sniper shot can only stun them, and not dismember them like it will other xenos)

I wish I could hear the interview here better, couldn't make out if other new info was here.

I'm not entirely sure this game is RTS. For me it is something like Cannon Fodder or Syndicate with Aliens. I like what I see so far.

Hope the levels will be randomly generated or this could get stale pretty fast I'm afraid.

Wasn't there also supposed to be another Aliens game in the works? Am I confusing the show/movie for 2 games?

After such a high with Alien Isolation...not sure this one will do it for me. (And I skipped Fireteam Elite as well...)

This game is looking good. Guys correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this gameplay mechanic the premise of Aliens Colonial Marines when it was originaly conceived? A strategic squad base game with different classes?
  6. Soapycloak
Gameplay looks quite decent, character design and cutscenes are a bit poor. Might pick it up if it delivers, have skipped Fireteam Elite. Hope it's more about aliens than those zombie cyborgs, but guess they will need to use different types of enemies to bring variety.

I remember that Aliens: Infestation also had "perma death" but there was at least the ability to save and load, but it might have been a feature of the emulator.
  8. Corporal Hicks
Just watched it through again. I absolutely love the Alien dragging that marine away. The unit perma-death is a very nice additional to an Alien game. I vaguely remember the old Starship Troopers RTS having that as well, but it's not a mechanic I've come across before.

I hadn't been expecting to be playing in a colony - I thought it was all in/around a crashed ship, not sure if I was misremembering something there - but the visuals look great there. Looked nice to see a more developed looking setup, but it still felt very old.

Hoping we see a good variety of weaponry in the customization as it was just the standard loadout shown in the trailer. But all in all, I'm still excited for this one.

Oh, and I've uploaded some new key art to the gallery.

Looks awful like that other recent game.
Why are these games obviously just a Coloinel Marine cluster f#ck
Boring. Trust me loved Avp Extinction

I'm very tickled by this dropping barely hours after I posted about the product page update! I'm really liking the looks of it. Only thing I'm not sure about is how the mutants factor into the narrative. Literally everything else I'm really looking forward to.
  11. Still Collating...
Wasn't expecting this so soon, what a surprise I must say! Since I've been feeling nostalgic for AvPE, this couldn't have come at a better time. It's exactly what I've imagined and what I want. Superb! The atmosphere seems to finally bring back some of that fear and tension that Aliens based shooters lacked since AVP 2010 when we last felt fear as a marine in the dark.

Actual 100 bullet mag for the M41A! Actual under-barrel grenade launcher! See AFE, it's not that hard... :P

This seems like it'll be exactly up my alley. I still can't believe it's coming so soon!

Only con so far, the plasma gun effects are poor. But the flamethrower looks magnificent! Hope there won't be too many human mutant enemies and I hope the story does something interesting with them.

The weather effects and locations look nice.
