During todays Disney & Marvel Games Showcase, part of this weekend’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, a new glimpse of gameplay for Aliens: Dark Descent was shown off. The footage of the upcoming tactical squad-based action game can be seen at the 9:37 mark of the livestream, but we also have the clip and some screenshots for you below!
While we saw a snippet of gameplay at the end of the cinematic trailer released with the game’s announcement back in June, this is the first look at the game running with its HUD displayed.
The details on screen show some of the combat menu, weapons, and equipment. The text also confirms the ‘Crusher’ Xenomorph type seen in Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Aliens: Fireteam Elite will be in the game.
A hands-off demo was also recently shown to game journalists behind closed doors at the European video game expo Gamescom.
Aliens: Dark Descent is scheduled to release sometime in 2023 for PC and Consoles.
The 20th Century Studios presentation for D23 will be tomorrow at 10am PT, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for any other potential news during the event.

Well, now I'm in a world of elation that it's doing that (presumably inspired by 'Battlefleet Gothic'), but also simultaneous disappointment, because I can totally envisage a 'Battlestar Galactica Deadlock'-style replay of each mission, where the AI selects cinematic cameras and replays the entire thing in a storytelling style, just like that does.
Tension-filled close-ups, Alien models rising out of the walls in places you don't view while in combat... It really would be a huge selling point if they did it! It's what makes BSGDL such a fun experience.
"Following the events of Predator 2, The Lost Tribe are about to leave LA when their attention is drawn to the set of Michael Bay's latest movie by the intense amount of explosions and action they see taking place there.
They alter course, landing on the Fox movie lot, and begin to hunt the cast and crew, unaware that the shootouts and pyrotechnics they're witnessing aren't actually real.
Now, Adrien Brody must prepare for the toughest role of his career: surviving this shoot!"
LOL
God if only.
Why do you tease me so.
Michael Bay is doing Predator 2: Part 2 (starring Adrien Brody) (this came out of nowhere.)
Ridley is joining Jimbo to do Alien 5. Ridley dropping the actual mic resulted in a ton of audio distortion, almost burst my eardrums.
No word on Fede's movie, looks like it has been canceled.
There was a ton of great looking concept art thrown on the screen.
Bay's movie looks super colorful and switches LA for Florida...
and then i woke up.
The game will go into slow-motion sometimes to give you the chance to get all your clicks in. I believe one of the recent hands-off demos brought it up.
I wasn't really expecting anything for us at the Studios event, but I was hoping for more from the games. I'm happy to have seen some footage though so it's not all a bust, but it is disappointing.

What's wrong with Roll20?

Now if only Laurian Studio's and Fox/Disney with Free League Publishing could get togeather and put the Aliens TTRPG into video game format with a SP/CoOp Campaign, and a GM Mode.
The interface is very 'X-COM', but the speed the Aliens were moving at makes me wonder if it'll be like the 'Battlestar Galactica' RTS, where you play through a game at one speed, but then the mission is replayed in a cinematic way. The AI chooses the best camera shots and tracks stuff of interest going on.
Which, honestly, would be truly amazing and superb for this.
In the case of BSG, it's turn-based, then the cinematic replay occurs and you have controls over how to rewind and view it. In the case of this, perhaps it plays out in slow-motion (to prevent the player feeling overloaded and simulate how a real person in that situation would have better reflexes than we would do), then replays the entire thing with cinematic perspectives.
If that's what they're doing it wasn't something I anticipated, but could be an ideal gameplay style compromise.
And if not, then they should do! Because now I've thought of this, it feels like a great possibility.
And done. The Avatar re-release and Avatar: The Way of Water were the entirety of 20th Century Studios' presence.
alongside.. Michael Bay?
There's only roughly twenty minutes or so left, though. So 20th isn't going to get a huge presence. Would be nice to hear something relevant here, but now at this point with how little time they have, I'm just expecting Avatar: The Way of Water to show some footage.
It really is a shame just how tiny/incidental Fox has become in the wake of the Disney acquisition... Just a sort of footnote after Star Wars/Marvel.

I don't mind the gameplay of Dark Descent so far. Very interested in it.

Also here's a youtube link to the D23 upload
Footage starts around 9:35!
I really hope they clean the UI up a bit before release, because even in that brief bit of footage that was a lot of text covering the screen.
