I lack faith in "The Gospel according to Ridley Scott".
There's a reason why "Ridley Scott says a lot of things" is a well-worn adage.

I just absolutely love how Shaw is literally is nowhere to be seen.  ???

    Or Walter
I think a lot of people are over-thinking this. This is some people in the special effects department having fun with the cool props they made for David's lab and coming up with a creative way to showcase them some more for people because they're cool and fun to look at. Like, it's right there in the video's description: "To celebrate the two-year anniversary of the Alien: Covenant DVD release, we wanted to share a little fun we had thanks to a partnership with YouTube Space LA, who helped recreate David's Lab from the film's set."

Shaw isn't there because they didn't have access to the Shaw corpse props for whatever reason. Walter isn't there because this is something the effects people threw together for fun, and hiring Michael Fassbender was probably off the table.

It is just a bit of fun. But I can think of about three ideas they could have done that wouldn't have cost any extra money and been more original.

I mean how about you have the guy actually surprise us and catch the hugger "specimen retrieved" , because absolutely everyone knows what's going to happen after the first 2 minutes....and it happens.

No biggie, when you're starving it's good to get a cracker

They probably have the physical Shaw prop, but using it would require clearing Noomi Rapace's likeness, which would involve paying her, which would involve spending way more than they did to make this thing.

Gona be the Debbie downbeater. Great that they did this. Yet another idiot in a space suit sent to investigate forgets his brain cells.

"At long last, we shall finally procure a specimen of the xenomorph species. Dispatch Nincompoop 57 for examination and retrieval. Make sure he moves slowly and takes no precautions, as per the employee handbook. If I see anybody doing anything that makes sense, don't bother coming into work tomorrow".

    #Board room

Ok guys , set the scene, it's Davids Lab

Guys - 'Whoaaa Cool, with all the drawings and stuff and experiments?! Super cool, they went back there! Then What!

    #CEO - Get this....He finds an Egg!!

    Guys - " cool...I guess.....yeah.....ok...then....."

#CEO - Then he takes his helmet off to scan it!

    Guys - # Rubbing forehead

#CEO - AND THEN....the f**king thing jumps on him cut to black!!!

    Guys - ....................

I've difficulty enjoying pretentious garbage. And the issue isn't the "comedic relief" whatever that's supposed to mean, it's everything from the ground up in the script.
The above video is entirely in good fun.
    Without a hint of seriousness.

Enjoyed it somewhat as badly want the prequels completed
But would of been more interesting if man was an Android
If this short is ridiculously canon it messes things up but if it's not, kind of tarnishes the whole exercise as a throwaway we dont give a damn, just buy the Blu-ray

It appears that the company wanted to know more about the lab after David's report at the end of Alien:Covenant. Yet again, another careless human who did not know what he was dealing with. He should have at least one Colonial Marine standing nearby to incinerate the egg. Great short film. Directors like these are true artists.

I don't understand why people keep thinking that David did not create the Xeno...
Aside from it being a dumb idea on multiple levels, there's a good amount of evidence to suggest he didn't invent it.

We may not lile something okay, I have no problem with that.
But I don't understand why they do everything to find another solution. When the film shows something which is not possible otherwise, I don't understand people who absolutely want to change the film and what it shows...
When you really look at the details and context (both in Covenant and in the franchise as a whole) it's not that cut-and-dry; at the risk of derailing the thread, I'd be happy to keep talking with you about it via PMs or something. :)

Shame about what happened with The Predator. I'm a huge fan of The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3.
If you like Shane Black, check out 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' and 'The Long Kiss Goodnight'.

It's pretty clear cut. David created the xenomorph. Xenomorph isn't the deacon. The deacon existed before, and the engineers knew of it, even worshipped it. Xenomorph has human characteristics that David fused into the pathogen. I imagine the next step is fusing machine qualities into the xenomorph. I'm assuming Awakening was supposed to be David completing the bio-mechanical beast and attempting to fuse himself into it so as to become the devil himself.

Can anyone make out the timestamps on the computer-filming sections? Wanna know where to put this in my timeline

I was just trying to do the same.  Looks to me like:
    POST DATE   2039 5/5/17

I assume that 17 is the year, since 2117 would make sense.

I'm not even positive that's a 17 though.  Kinda wondering if they intentionally made it too small to make out so us dorks wouldn't latch onto it.  :P
    Ta!

I'm positive it's a 17 but can't make out the rest.  Having too many numbers makes it deliberately ambiguous.  Kinda like that 'galactic position' stuff in Covenant.

Another questionable part was a read-out saying 'Weyland Industries'.

Cool video I guess it is in order to say. I won't even enter it is about time we see a video about David's laboratory. But I cannot be alone. How many of you have ever thought of the jockeys being some kind of nanobot race, and the chair some sorta species decoder?
