Updated: Alien: Romulus Trailer and Poster Are Here!

Following the tease and hidden image of Alien: Romulus’ Xenomorph from Fede Alvarez last night, the promised tomorrow has finally arrived.  Alongside the first poster for Alien: Romulus, we now have our first look at the film’s teaser trailer. Check it out below!

The trailer begins with a spaceship heading towards a huge spaceport. We see a blood-soaked corridor with characters screaming in the background. Multiple Facehuggers break out of a confinement and we see different shots of the characters. The teaser ends with Cailee Spaeny’s character holding a weapon similar to the Pulse Rifle while a Xenomorph appears from overhead.

The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), Aileen Wu. Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”) directs from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (“Don’t Breathe 2”) based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. “Alien: Romulus” is produced by Ridley Scott (“Napoleon”), who directed the original “Alien” and produced and directed the series’ entries “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant,” Michael Pruss (“Boston Strangler”), and Walter Hill (“Alien”), with Fede Alvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon (“Charlie’s Angels”), Brent O’Connor (“Bullet Train”), and Tom Moran (“Unstoppable”) serving as executive producers.

And now for the poster!

I love that this feels like a return to Alien in terms of psychological-spiritual horror. The Alien films have felt either mostly like action flicks (Aliens, Alien Resurrection) or grand Odyssey epics (Prometheus, Alien Covenant) which I do love mind you. But Alien (1979) had a spiritual horror that hasn't quite re-emerged, Romulus gave me those Gigerian Vibes again, especially the cryotube with blood and screams, and the facehuggers chasing down people in confined spaces.

I confess that I love each Alien film: its aesthetic, style, and interpretation of the Xenomorph. But the original  Alien is my favorite, and to see hints we may get some of that former g(l)ory "brings warm feelings to my heart." (Yoda, Attack of the Clones).

On another note, here's a clearer look at the Xeno and Facehuggers from a ProRes version of the trailer:

The facehuggers do look significantly different in that shot, not like the one Fede shared in the Alien Day still? A lot more volume to them. I can see the Super Facehugger vibes in the colours there too.

Quote from: Local Trouble on Mar 20, 2024, 09:17:47 PMI like the rifle itself.  It's a nice marriage of the aesthetics from both of the first two films.

Honestly, after those boring rifles in Prometheus and that awfully lazy AUG in Covenant, it's really refreshing to actually see some effort put into creating a new weapon! I like the looks of this predecessor Pulse Rifle. Can definitely see the design linage in it, it also looks like a slightly awkward version of the M41A too. I also get a smirk out of it being white as all the stuff manufactured for Weyland in Fireteam Elite was also white.

Honestly my least favourite part of those movies is the super generic tech. If you got rid of WeyYu logos and didn't mention or show xenos I doubt anyone would know they were alien prequels.

I think it's probably more effective than a horde of Warriors nowadays, probably because we gotten so used to them. I know there's like a section of swarms of facehuggers in a comic book but I haven't read it and they only source I listen to is from YouTube and that was a while ago. I think I haven't even finished it.

Wait, I thought it was that one comic alien defiance that had a scene like this. There was another one like it?

And recently there was a swarm of facehuggers in Dark Descent in one of first cutscenes. So we got that visual in motion, but now it's time for live action one.

At 0:45 in the trailer it looks like a broad-shouldered character near the doors in the background is *deliberately* unleashing a facehugger onto the character in the foreground.

They don't seem to react at all / flinch to the facehugger leaping around, so I presume this is deliberate, and they didn't let the hugger into the room by accident.

Oh - and maybe an Easter Egg - at 0:49 when the Ripley-esque character stands near an archway, the wire pattern on the archway above her head and slightly behind her is (half) the shape of the octagon self-destruct countdown computer screen used by Mother in the original Alien film

Quote from: GreybackElder on Mar 21, 2024, 08:29:02 PMSo some of the Aliens throughout the series have had nicknames:
    Big Chap
    Warrior
    Dog
    Newborn

...what are we calling the Alien in the trailer?
Scarface is okay but there is a scar-face in a predator game
    What about Slash?

Big Chap was what it was called on set. Warrior and Newborn were in the script and the Alien 3 creature is variously called the Dragon, Spike or Runner.

A nickname will evolve through common usage rather than someone forcing an opinion on a forum (not that I think you're forcing an opinion- just speaking generally).

Ha, yes i totally agree with you. As I was trying to remember these "nicknames" I kept thinking that some of these are actually script names. I also agree that forcing a name will never stick it's just a fun thought experiment.

Quote from: jacobo1122 on Mar 21, 2024, 09:23:50 PMI must say, it's exciting time for being an Alien fan and especially for me, because it's my first time waiting like that for a new movie. Before only Alien movies I saw in theaters were Prometheus and Covenant, and I wasn't as dedicated to the franchise as I am now, I wasn't following rumors or chatting on forums. Honestly, I even felt that I'm getting further away from this series after disasters like Prometheus and Colonial Marines. If it wasn't for Isolation, I doubt I would be here today. But I am, more into franchise than ever, and experiencing the thrill of waiting for a new movie with fellow fans is great. I only hope that I won't get overhyped and don't appreciate the movie even if it would be decent. And honestly being just decent is what I want from it now, just like other Alvarez' movies. Both Evil Dead and Don't Breathe were well made horrors, but they didn't blow me out of my sockets or anything. And I think that it is what we need right now from this movie, being just  well made horror.Everything above that will be nice suprise for me.It is possible of course, I had similiar thoughts about Trachtenberg and his movies, and yet he found his footing so well in Predator series and cooked up  something truly special for us.

Welcome friend! Yes, what a time to be an Alien or Predator fan. I must say I haven't been this pumped for an alien or predator release since i saw the Predators trailer. While I feel that Prey was superior to predators in many ways that Predators trailer was epic!!

Having listened to some of the interviews I feel that Alvarez and Trachtenberg have the same kind of respect and reverence of the franchises. I don't want to get my hopes up but if this teaser is anything close to the actual movie I think we are in for a real treat.
