Podcaster Joe Rogan Shows ADI Alien 5 Maquette in Studio

We now have a better look at the sculpture of a four-armed ‘Big Chap’ style Alien created during the development of the ultimately cancelled Alien 5 project. You may remember this maquette was shared by director Neil Blomkamp back in 2018 on his Instagram. This was previously the only time the maquette had been shown publicly.

The sculpture was created by creature and practical effects workshop StudioADI, with effects artist Tim Martin as the sculptor.

In a recent social media post by podcaster Joe Rogan, he posted some images of the full maqeutte from different angles.

“New studio mascot.”

Given the appearance of this sculpt in the podcast studio, it seems possible that StudioADI, or perhaps Blomkamp who was a guest on the podcast last year, may be appearing in an upcoming episode.

Let's not forget that Gibson wrote his script 33 years ago, when the idea of a new alien and of genetic modification were fresh. Now, it's cliche and every alien movie since 1997 had the urge to introduce a new, "better" monster.

True enough! I wasn't criticising Gibson for that though - just why I wouldn't want to see it show up in Blomkamp's. As much as I like the idea as presented in certain ways, it's a little boring at the moment.

The "introducing a new Alien every time" mentality has been a thing '86, with Aliens' Queen, and was continued in Alien 3's Runner even before Resurrection went all out with literal genetic tampering.

It's just kind of baked into the franchise's post-Alien DNA at this point.

For being the perfect organism and having acid and extreme immune system etc it seems its super easy to do genetic experiments and change to any scientist wish, even easier than changing human dna xD Xenos should be extremly hard to change their dna and genes, its after all alien to human and how our genes work.

William Gibson's script actually had something talking about the ease in which the Alien's DNA allows itself to be manipulated, like a GMO weapon. And I know I'm being contradictory with how bored I am of genetic modification storylines at the minute, but I do like the idea of the Alien deliberately being flexible in its design and parameters. (Just let's have a break when all the other franchises were doing it).

I like the goofy extra arms and overly large head. It's cute and i want to pet it.
Fine by me as a "weird mutant alien".

But overall Blomkamp isn't a good director and his art direction for this project was beyond silly at times.

And Joe Rogan is a transphobe and Blomkamps little friendship with him and his relentless simping for Elon Musk... not cute at all.

    Glad this project is dead.

Design elements may show up in the tv series if ADI ends up being involved.. lol

We cannot know what this movie would've been. We do know however that Covenant is a bad movie.

And I agree, extra arms could've gone down the queen road, I'm not too fond of the idea, but again, with lack of context... Ah we'll probably never know.

    "ADI can't do biomechanical lmao"

You may be mistaking with "ADI can't do predators mouths correctly", except that one is totally true.

I have to imagine this would have been some in-between form with Big Chap transitioning into a Queen?

Whatever the case, my mindset on this new reveal is the same as it has been on most of the others – I'm glad we didn't get this particular movie, but I'm also constantly fascinated to see more and learn about what would have been.

I can't stand the double-jointed dog legs. Horrible. Now almost every modern rendition of the classic Alien design has to have them.

The second set of arms are rubbish.

Glad A5 wasn't made. Going by the A5 pre-production art, it probably would've turned into another CGI sh*t-fest, fan service exercise.

Lol the alien 5 movie would been bad, ripley in a alien queen combat suit, and the whole plot from what we seen and ridley to cancel it, and the fact blomkamp hasnt done a good movie since district 9, his robocop remake got cancelled too.....
Plus remote controling xenos by a vr helmet, and xen drone combat suit/helmet for humans to use wtf.

The alien design: the quality is good and nice to see the original design, some changes in it, but adding those tiny arms just make it look silly, and why? It dont need those arms and why would it even get them? Plus they are so small they dont do any good use, I dont see any purpose for them besides the designer thinking it would be cool just because. xD
