Updated: Fox Teases An Active 2019 for the Alien Franchise!

2018 is coming to an end within the next 2 weeks and it’s been a busy Predator focused year. But 20th Century Fox has taken to Instagram to remind us that 2019 isn’t going to be a quiet year for Alien, promising that the “Alien Universe expands” in 2019.

One of the post’s hashtags is Amanda Ripley, perhaps hinting that Amanda is the one writing the post? We already know that Amanda is returning in Aliens: Resistance, a sequel to both Alien: Isolation and Aliens: Defiance. We’ll also be seeing her again in Keith R.A. DeCandido’s Alien: Isolation novel – which has unfortunately been pushed back to July 30th.

Or perhaps it is related to something else entirely. Only time will tell! Make sure you’re following the Alien Anthology account on Instagram to check out the next 5 dossiers.

Make sure you keep checking in with Alien vs. Predator Galaxy in 2019 for the latest on Alien and Predator! You can follow us on FacebookTwitterInstagram and YouTube to get the latest on your social media walls. You can also join in with fellow Alien and Predator fans on our forums!

Update #1: 20/12/2018 – And the second dossier is already up!

Update 3# – And a third one!

Update #4 21/12/2018: The fourth dossier has been posted!

Update #5 – And the last two are now up!

Fifield and Millburn separated themselves from the group during a situation where they had become concerned for their own wellbeing. Fifield was even willing to go alone. Not exactly the smartest of the bunch.

I think Scott's most fundamental error was in not deciding on the kind of film he was making: Ontological study on the nature of creation (ala 2001); or horror thriller (like Alien).

Halfway in-between we got some once-over-lightly schoolboy philosophy, mixed with 80s-style horror-slasher tropes. Together, it has the faint whiff of pretentiousness. He should have committed one way or the other, either way would have worked.

What Scott should've done was make the movie he was really wanting to make, which was a new blade runner. If he wanted to make small links to alien that would've just enhanced the film for me. Blade Runner is where his heart was, and still is. While somebody else could've done a standalone alien movie with new characters, or perhaps Cameron could've been enticed to come back and do Gibson's Alien 3.

Regardless, we are where we are. And oh, what could've been. What could...have...been.

At least we got BR2049 from Villeneuve. I hope to see the man take on Alien someday.

    So?

It still makes it stupid for the guy, managing
"My pups" the mapping equipment to get lost.

And stupid for Millburn to interact with
    a potentially dangerous unknown organism.
Especially with the context that he's in a tomb,
on another planet, surrounded by decayed corpses.

    It's not just the characters though- it's the entire plot;
Why would the Engineers leave directions (supposedly)
to a system that they used as a weapons testing facility?

The melodrama between Peter Weyland, and his awful monster mash face
and Meredith Vickers is horribly written.

The Pathogen's space magic goo that can do whatever the plot requires.
Most of the dialogue is also... bad.
Like, Star Wars prequels- "people don't talk like that" bad.

Brett let the cat go, and at that point they were chasing something smaller than a Cat-
they had no way of knowing it could've grown to such ridiculous,
taller than a man proportions- in that time.

Fifield and Millburn didn't know there were acid snakes alive in the pyramid.

The old argument that horror genre characters
have to do stupid stuff for it to qualify as a horror film or work.
    ...

They don't have to, but many of them did. Scary Movie did a great job parodying them and all their tropes.

I think the issue you're having there is that you have elevated the film to intellectual levels while letting go of the fact that is is still fundamentally rooted in the horror-flick genre.  Based on that, it adheres to certain genre tropes.  It is the same old thing about a group of teenagers in the woods, and one or two decide to go off on their own.

    Oh really?

What about when Kane let's the cat go and then goes off looking for it on his own?

Or how about those scenes in Aliens and Terminator where... well actually those films are perfect.

I don't remember the other films enough to pick out the stupid things the characters did but I'm sure they're there.

The above was a response to the Old One..
  7. Nukiemorph
Just making sure everyone is aware... but early drafts of Prometheus had an explaination for certain characters being dumb.

Vickers intentionally hired morons in an attempt to sabotage her father's mission to live forever.

The old argument that horror genre characters

    It's B.S, I don't believe it.

    Alien, Aliens, Alien³,
The Terminator, Predator and The Thing
off the top of my head don't have this trope.

I liked a great deal for about four years.
Until I argued with a friend and she went over how unbelievably stupid,
the plot and nearly every character interaction is.

But I love Prometheus even though I don't like the majority of the characters.

At first I really didn't like Prometheus either but as time went on, I grew to enjoy it more despite terrible choices made by dumb characters. I actually liked and cared what happened to Shaw and Janek. David to me was interesting as well. To be honest, I've felt the same way about A3. I used to hate it but now, I really enjoy it and have grown to rewatch it as much as I do the first two.

    A:R.... not so much lol

What about the terrible writing and characters?

To me it was about 45%, the visuals are gorgeous-
    but there's very little substance.

The characters were memorable enough.  They just did dumb stuff.  And that comes down to the writing.  It's just my opinion that resultingly, the film loses 15%.  Other than that, it was very rewatchable, majestic, mysterious, and grand.  At first I wan't sure what to think about it, but it filled me with a sense of wonder that was so powerful that it overcame its inequities for me.  It is my third favorite film in the series, right after Alien.  A great great film.  But I don't care to have popular opinions.  I like what I like.

I thought it was about 85% in terms of its potential.  It answered many questions, and none of them were obvious.  It took the mythos in a completely unexpected direction.  The dumb stuff that characters did, or the lack of a Giger aesthetic are its main detriments.

People still get excited over speculation and conjecture? Damn I am getting too old for this.

Right? Why get excited when there is new material being released featuring my favorite franchise? the franchise I enjoy so much i became a member of a fansite just to talk about it.

I know, such a strange reaction for a fan to have.
When Prometheus was announced I was so excited and pumped... it's been only 8 years or so since then, what the f**k has happened to me. Was turning 40 really that bad of a thing? :'(
  16. Huggs
I don't see Isolation 2 being a possibility. I don't see us ever getting that game really.

Now a mobile game, or an MMO perhaps.

Nothing extravagant, but something to keep the franchise's blood flowing.
  17. Ultramorph
I wasn't too worked up until Hicks hinted that there might be more than the obvious. I don't get as excited as I did, say five years ago when they first started hinting at Prometheus comics, but it's fun to speculate.

Well sure, there's nothing wrong with a little fun in getting excited over potential new material. I mean, this fandom is no stranger to disappointment so we'll try not to get too excited  ;) lol
