Alien Covenant Release Date Changed to August 4, 2017!

20th Century Fox have announced that Alien Covenant will be released in cinemas on August 4, 2017! Fox had previously announced Covenant’s release date as October 6, 2017 last year so it’s been given a nice big summer release. As it stands, Alien Covenant doesn’t really have any competition. Pitch Perfect 3 comes out the same weekend while Jumanji is released the week before.

Alien: Covenant Title Art Alien Covenant Release Date Changed to August 4, 2017!

Alien Covenant’s release date has changed to August 4, 2017.

With casting pretty much complete, Alien Covenant is due to start principal photography in the coming weeks in Sydney, Australia. The Prometheus sequel has been written by Jack Paglen, Michael Green and John Logan, and Ridley Scott will be directing the new Alien movie. The story revolves around the spacecraft Covenant discovering a dangerous new world where David the android (played once again by Michael Fassbender) is the only inhabitant.

The new release date is three days before my 21st birthday! I could not be any happier (unless the movie sucks... then I'm just going to get hammered and try to forget).

I know it's highly unlikely (basically impossible), but how cool would it be James Cameron returned for Alien 5? I think his Avatar sequels would have to fail pretty hard, but with every delay that befalls them, I feel like it becomes a stronger possibility, even though it probably won't happen. *random thought*

    With all respect offcourse.
But i think he will retire after this, thats why he held Blomkamp down for the other Alien movie,

Last interview I watched with him he wasn't exactly about to keel over just yet. Clint Eastwood is still doing movies at 85.

He's made his fair share of naff movies.

The problem with those films was usually the script (often due to his meddling). I don't think I've seen a badly directed Ridley Scott film yet.
Yeah but 78 is fragile, he can wake up one morning with his face hanging to the side,
    or get heart problems.
Anyway lets hope he will grow old and healthy, i mean older :D
And the release in 2017 is a long time ahead of us, they will probably shoot more then one movie.

They don't need it to open top of the weekend. They just need it to open well, like Prometheus did (it came second to Madagascar 3 but with $55m). Hopefully Covenant will have better legs though.

releasing against pitch perfect is a bad idea , this film wont get much female audience , yes pitch perfect is a junk movie its crap but it'll catch the attention of women more so then alien.

Just something about your writing rhythms. For instance how do you know John Logan is an "avid reader" of Paradise Lost?
Concerning my statemant about Logan and Paradise lost: I know that because I watched his interview about
Penny Dreadful in which he said that he likes to read Shakespeare and English poets
like Milton and his Paradise lost.He also like to read William Wordsworth... ;D So thats te story about that...
Oh and yes, Michael Green wrote series called Kings based on bible story about king David...

    Cool! Thanks for the info!

Thats maybe because I am not a native English speaker... dont know about Dave?
But he seem to me like someone who really know a lot about Alien universe; thats just my opinion and I am
    not a great expert...

But that's likewise no guarantee whatsoever of ultimate quality. Alien 3 was being written for 5 years, by 10 different writers. What they eventually filmed was hardly the most bulletproof of scripts.

I agree with you, Alien 3 also wrote 3 writers (togheter) not 10 as you said, but never mind, you are never the less right...
But the fact that they brought someone credible like John Logan to fix logical and narrative inconsequences and some plot elements is
very reassuring fact... I would be optimistic and we shall wait and see

I was just pointing out that just because Ridley's behind the wheel, that doesn't mean this is guaranteed to be a great movie.

Of course... But consider this, writing proces for Alien Covenant and other two films began right after Prometheus and lasted for almost 4 years (and this is credible information!). Three writers very familiar with Alien and SF worked on this project. First is Peglan who is a newcomer, and then Green which career began to shine (he wrote Blade Runner, Wolverine 3, remake of Murder on the Orient Express; all those facts suggest that the studio is satisfied by his work), and then came John Logan whose task was to rewrite the screenplay, and that means his work on Alien was to fix all logical and narrative inconsequence and character development, and some tiny story elements... So all this story about screenwriters reassured me to be VERY optimistic about Alien covenant. :D ;D

P.S. John Logan is avid reader of Paradise Lost!!! Green and Peglan are also very familiar
with Miltons epic and some biblical and mythological stories about creation and fall of men...

I also heard that some philosophical elements of
Matrix movies could be integrated in Covenant plot...(Peglan first draft maybe introduced this idea)

Note thate there are three writers and three movies (Covenant  + two more), so the scripts for all of them could be completed... Maybe Fox greenlit all three? If thats the case, Ridley could shoot them very fast! (Last of them could be in theaters somwhere in 2018/9). Maybe they are going to Shoot Covenant + one more... After all shootig will last for 16 weeks, and thats enough for two movies!
You're that Big Dave dude right?

And anyway, we have no idea if they're still working from the same script they started writing all those years ago, they could've thrown everything out and started over in that time.

All reports suggest that we ll see all three movies in a relatively short period of time and
of course that also depend on the success of Alien Covenant ;D ;)

They have a rough screenplay or story for all of them already prepared!!!

f**k. Of course you're not the only one. He's no spring chicken after all, the dudes 78. Plus all those cigars he's smoked. I'm pretty sure he'll retire after the series is finished as well. He'll be in his mid 80's by then. Which is why I think we'll get two more movies and not three. He may even shoot them one right after the other.

My personal taste is this one. I like the structure from where the water is coming. Who knows what kind of dangerous creatures are inside ?

That structure is in fact gate from pyramid in Prometheus ;D
I analysed all hidden messages (bunch of them) from Prometheus:

    I am optimistic also because:
    - Ridley Scott is a master of science fiction and of course a great director.
    - Writing the script took more than two years. The Scott and Fox team were very attentive to detail and character development. It's certain. Michael Green wrote the film, the sequel to Blade Runner, Murder on the Orient Express, Wolverine 3, I know that Fox and Scott are very pleased with his work.
    - Prometheus despite its flaws is a bloody great film. The secondary characters are bad, the assembly too, but the realization is absolutely amazing, epic music, impressive scenes, great ambience, Prometheus is not horror, it's pure science fiction that only a guy like Scott can do. Imperfect but grandiose. It's better than 99% of the blockbusters of the past 15 years.
    - The material is huge, the Alien universe is profound. the mysteries surrounding Prometheus are interesting and important. A complex story in coming for sure.
    - The cast is very good, Michael Fassbender in lead is an excellent thing. I just hope the secret return of Noomi Rapace.
    - Harry Gregson Williams is back (Kingdom Of Heaven, Prometheus Theme, The Martian, MGS...)
    - Pretty Hard R + Big Budget (120-150M$) + Fiordland is an exciting location.

The new release date is perfect. A teaser at year end would be huge, HUGE!

An Alien movie will come out in 2017. It's major.

Why I'm excited for Covenant? because

Is this movie sounding like Halo 4 to anyone? Big colony ship being downed(I presume) and finding themselves on an alien world inhabited by a guy whose a sole survivor of a crashed ship(shaw and cortana have short hair as well) and bunch of alien nasties trying to kill them all? Also the fact that there are Prometheans later discovered? Thoughts?

Do you really think that Ridley is going to make something so simple like that... He wants philosophical ideas in the movie, and he intends to explore the background of that creature (perfect organism) which is a bio weapon for mass destruction. Ridley from Prometheus wanted to make connection of Xeno origin story with human and Engineers story and perheaps with ultimate creator (I have a great feeling that we are going to see someone "new", I even have some informations but I wont share that).. Xeno is ultimetly the representation of human fall (Adam and Eve) and that first fall was first covenant with God, covenant with rainbow and flood everybody already know, but there are more covenants... All those motif from Paradise Lost will have certan significance in movies storyline (not too obvious connection, but major story of human fall and eternal conflict of two sides will surely have some impact on Covenant story). Ridley wants to explore how human deeds led to chaos and he also want to explore Davids involment in all that. David as human creation is ultimate link in the whole story. Only difference from Prometheus would be greater horror factor (and we 100% know that) and better character development (that is major fear, if they fail at that aspect of the movie, they are over)... because those are the major things Prometheus did wrong. Alien Covenant wont answer all the questions, there would also be ambiguity in many aspects of the story, and that is good because mystery is essential in movies like Alien and Prometheus. They only need to fix character development and narrative and to give us some more apparent clues that will lead to some answers (not all). They also CAN NOT disreard all the story Prometheus set, because no matter how mysetious and flawed that movie was, there are many good questions that Prometheus asked... and some hidden messages that could easily be present in Covenant... I even heard that some phillosophical aspect of Matrix movies would be integrated in Covenant story... What if the ultimate creator of everything is something that we made? Possibility of that twist is not so  impossible.. Remember Davids sentence: "Doesn't everyone want their parents dead?" They really have a lot material to explore and to make epic movie with great horror.

I will remain very optimistic about this one... and I m not too often optimistic about sequels and prequels,
but Alien Covenant seem to me like something that will top all Alien movies and fix Prometheus misdeeds! :)

So what I want from this movie: they cant disregard Prometheus major plot elements, compelling and well developed characters, original horror scenes (pretty hard R), lot of psychological horror, few not so direct answers similar to puzzle but solvable one (Prometheus is to me puzzle that can not be solved), exploration of Alien origin and its connection with humans, David or perhaps some third creator (Demiurge), I would like some twisted scenes and great story twists also... I want Paradise to be some kind of facility with desolate yet beautiful scenery (Remember that Janty Yates said that Covenant isn so much of a space suit movie!)... so that will be  sufficient for a great movie, I think ;D

This is likely because of Episode 8. Disney wants Star Wars to own the Christmas season and an October release for this will tread close to SW and possibly interfere with whatever, other, Thanksgiving releases that are planned for that year.

A Summer release for this is best.

Shooting could start in mid March or beginning of April...
right after Fassbender finish his shooting of Snowman!

I even think that they already shoot some scenes in UK and in New Zealand or New South Wales...
maybe some intro aerial shots with chopper or something without main cast...?

Ridley always referred to April (March) shooting as main shooting with main actors in Australia's Fox Studio
and in locations of NSW, but all the shooting that doesn't require main cast could very well be completed.
