Today, thousands of websites (the largest being Wikipedia) were blacked out in protest of the controversial SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (PROTECT IP Act) bills going through congress in the United States. Their aim is to stop copyright infringement but instead, they will destroy the very freedom of the internet. This doesn’t just affect people in the United States but everybody in the world. Fansites like this one simply wouldn’t be able to exist if these bills were passed. You can read more about the situation on the Stop American Censorship website and by watching the video below:
The major players supporting the bills obviously include the MPAA and the RIAA. The opponents include Facebook, Twitter, Google, eBay, Yahoo and many other high profile companies.
In any case, don't expect the U.S. to reject this. Most of the major labels are in the States so it's highly unlikely.
I heard that the US already signed it. Last year.
Doubt it. It just means the big D would have to remove all pics, sigs, avs and videos. You know, all those annoying colours that break up the wall of text. Come to think of it, that'd be right up his alley. Maybe he's working for the feds
You'd have to ask Darkness about that. He's the only one who would know for sure.
Well links videos and pictures are the best way to get things across. The thing is a lot of people don't know about ACTA still.
What is the deal with this censorship all of a sudden?
This says nothing about it being passed. You must have been misinformed.
Link? I can't find anything atm.
Well f**k.
Hell yeah, stop this madness it makes SOPA redundant in comparsion.

Say No to ACTA
Dropping by to spread the word.
Twas a joke? It might ring true for certain congressmen in the US state of Pennsylvania. Rumor has it that a charity run by a former college coaching assistant pimped out underage kids to the highest bidder that could very well be high up government officials in the state.
Spoiler
Seriously though, almost all politicians have a price tag. It's sad, but that's the truth =/
I think you're foolish considering you misspelt "you're" but with a claim like that, it's not surprising.
I guess they were getting their vegetables in at the end, there.
Not every politician is a mustache twirling villain or some puppet only looking out for their self-interests. There are a lot of good people on Capital Hill who are truly trying to make a difference.
I disagree, strongly.
Congressmen and women want to stay in office, so if they're constituents get pissed, they'll change their minds on the issue if they want to keep their jobs (in the long term.) You can watch this happen, as it did above and does all of the time.
Wait, did you actually say "little boys?"
Yeah I remember the last media scandal where a congressman was busted for being bribed by a lobbyist with little boys.
any of you watched the first hearing? i didn't think US congressmen and women could be that infantile. they spent 45 minutes clearing up on the use of the word "offended". at a point they were so confused by how the technology involved works they all yielded and only two people were paraphrasing what an expert called in said. and at the end they suspended the discussion to order pizza.
funniest shit i've ever seen.
If you believe that(politicians having minds of their own) then your foolish. Every politician is under the control of some lobbyist who are well versed in the act of persuading AKA bribing them with money, little boys ect...at least in the US of A.

I wouldn't lower my guard just yet.
Also, let's not let our 'winning high' (If we really did 'win') let us forget about ACTA.

Not sure if this requires its own thread.

The bill has apparently been pulled.

EDIT: By eck! I should have read the last page.
nice.
Smith is pulling the bill yo
May be worth a try. Can't think of any films or albums coming out between here and March that I wanna see, anyways, so I may have done this unintentionally anyways.
Personally I don't believe it because SOPA hasn't even been voted on yet, has it?
Well yeah of course they will I'm just saying that this is just another piss-poor attempt to control something that is just a natural part of technology.
