The MonsterVerse hasn't really been 'grounded' since 2014, and that one still has, you know, a giant amphibious reptile fighting giant horny parasites. Kaiju movies (like most genre films) hinge on suspension of disbelief and sense of wonder, so once you realize square-cube law is null they become a lot more interesting and entertaining.
Oh don't get me wrong here, I've been a fan of Godzilla since 1999, I know it can get nuts that its super fun. Its just that each film or era always had a set tone on how things were going about in the films that when big G did that drop kick, since everything else was wacky in the Showa era, I rolled with it happily.
As for Godzilla 2014, the portrayal of Godzilla and the two MUTOS were based on animalistic instinct and intelligence. Their expressions, their body language, the weight that shifts back and forth when they move is so animal, it made the idea that if were big ass monsters living like that for real, I can imagine this is how they would do.
Its not going to stop me from watchin the film anytime soon that's for sure, just got me off guard.
