I can understand not liking the scene, but how exactly is it bad writing?

The scene clearly shows David's narcissistic tendencies through a dialogue full of sexual inuendo to a literal copy of himself, while at the same time trying to manipulate his naive brother.

Say what you want about Covenant, but it tried to bring back some that psychosexual themes that Giger liked so much.

The flute scene is great. Maybe even the film's best scene, honestly. Love the interplay between David and Walter there.

Are you hoping to see that this movie will have more sexual themes around the xenomorph? I know this is a weird question, but since HR Geiger art is a little more on the let's say "inspirational" side of the art community, I'm kind of hoping that there are some elements of those themes around the xenomorph. Hell I think we saw one in the trailer with the face hugger removeal.

The psycho-sexual has always been part of the Alien Saga. I do hope it is more like Alien in showing this aspect of the creature.

I mean yeah, it's always been part of the franchise, but I feel like it's been focused on less as the years went on when they start to focus on the shooter elements instead of the psycho-sexual elements

Alien: Covenant brings those elements back to the forefront in full force.

So will this movie is going to be somewhat religious or theme of religious?

Seems to be playing more on Greek mythology/history more so than any contemporary religion, but I'm sure there will be some overlap there (probably less so than the more overt Christian overtones in Alien 3, Resurrection, and the prequels [though the prequels also had a lot of Greek myth to their makeup as well], however).

Roman mythology surely? Aliens and Prometheus had a little bit of Greek mythology mixed-in. Alien a little bit of Egyptian mythology.

With regards to religion, we have the Father Corbelan reference, though at this point it's still a very tenious and esoteric reference that not many will pick up.
