There are also some comments going around about it "sharing continuity" with Shin Godzilla, though that appears to be a mistranslation as far as I can tell, simply referring to the two as being of the same "Reiwa Era."

EDIT: Here's the Forbes article with all the information, it went live a little earlier than it was supposed to:

The link mentions a teaser trailer, so I guess we should be getting that in about 40 minutes.

Minus One? Is that something that isn't translating well? Because it sounds kind of dumb.

Since we have key art with the title, I'm guessing that is the official proper translation there.

Also, looks like Godzilla is inside the Queen chestburster.

Shall I remove myself from this thread?
I wouldn't exactly call myself a huge Godzilla fan but I unashamedly love the '98 movie.

Well that looks awesome. Strange that the design looks a little more like Legendary Godzilla than I was expecting.

According to the synopsis, it's because Godzilla's appearance after the war took Japan backwards, hence minus. It's also set before 1954, when the original Godzilla was released, hence 'Minus One'.

Watched the teaser a few times, I really dig what I'm seeing. Doing a period piece story like this just feels so right. Harkens back to the original film with the train, too. Also I really cannot wrap my head around the idea of this being connected to Shin Godzilla, based on what we're seeing here. I'm really gonna have to chalk that up to being a mistranslation for now.

All in on the Godzilla Minus One hype train now, can't wait for this. Very glad it's getting a theatrical release in the US.

I'm not a huge godzilla fan either which is perhaps the reason why I love the 98 version. It's a fun movie which would have been a cult classic if it had another title, I suppose.

Anyway the teaser for the new film has me hyped, looks intense!

Supposedly a possible mistranslation, since they're connected by being in the Reiwa era.

Full look at the new Toho design. I love it! It is a perfect hybrid of all the previous Godzillas imho.

Here are some upscaled images of the new iteration.

Definitely looks like Yamazaki's been really honing in on one particular design philosophy, from his Godzilla cameo in Always: Sunset on Third Street 2, through to his theme park stuff, and now really refined here into what we're seeing of the big guy in Minus One. Neat. I really love this look.

A man who made a theme park ride, true cinema as Scorsese intended.
