Predator: Hunting Grounds to be Revived on Xbox and PS5! Illfonic Taking Over Publishing

Well we didn’t expect this one coming. The asymmetric multiplayer game Predator: Hunting Grounds which launched as a PlayStation console exclusive (alongside a PC release) back in 2020, will finally be getting new updates and content! But that’s not all! Illfonic has taken over the publishing role from Sony and Predator: Hunting Grounds will be coming to Xbox Series consoles!

A press release was shared onto social media this morning by X (formerly Twitter) user @Wario64, outlining the upcoming plans for the game:

Predator: Hunting Grounds to be Revived on Xbox and PS5! Illfonic Taking Over Publishing

To start, the game will be recieving patch 2.49 in April, which will add balancing tweaks and reworks. Later this year the game will be receiving essentially a relaunch on PS5 and will launch on Xbox for the first time. And coming around winter late this year and into next, we’ll be getting new Predators. We have to hope ‘Feral’ will be among them!

We had a lot of fun playing this game and we’re excited to see it getting new attention from Developer and now Publisher Illfonic.

I agree. What we need is more variety and expansion to the gameplay loop.
I'll gladly hop back on and play, but if there isn't more maps, more mission variety, and balancing involved, then it probably wont last long.

Always glad to see more Predators added, but I think we have enough to play as until those issues are taken care of. Can't be the only thing being added to the game.

    Going to stay optimistic

Definitely surprising news! I welcome new Predators and general support, but for me it really needs to add more maps, modes and unlockables for the Fireteam. Without that, I'm not sure this revival will really sustain a player base, even with the injection from the other platforms. I've always said I love the gameplay loop and the whole setup of the scenarios, but without a decent amount of variety in the maps or incentive for the Fireteam side of things, I just don't think it'll compete with other titles.

It's interesting that SONY seems to be the thing that was killing the game. With Illfonic taking over they seem happy to bring it back and add another patch and more Preds, and potentially who knows what else next year. Just thought that was a seemingly interesting revelation here.

I live (used to live actually) in Argentina and I played the game a few times in the house of a friend who had it thanks to the PS+. You're right, it has to long queues

This came right out of left field. Makes me wonder how much of theor hands were tied by Sony. Hopefully it can live up to the potential the game has, but not holding my breath. Would love to be wrong.

I always wanted the predators 2010 hunting camp map and Nolands drill map, that would be so cool and scary. day and night versions for both also

This is incredible news! Thank goodness they finally did this game & hope to see more titles that are only Playstation exclusives at this time...

But I have wanted to play this game so badly but never even have. So, gonna be getting this 1st thing! NO DOUBT! 8)

Quote from: SuperiorIronman on Mar 29, 2024, 03:42:09 PMBafflingly they have enough playerbase to consider that viable. Not that I'm complaining, it's just that I'm shocked it's even doing a relaunch. Like yeah it's gonna be more of the same on Xbox and some new Predator but that's huge and I just wasn't expecting that.

And without Sony that's one less entity Illfonic has to answer to so that's probably good for getting content out quicker. After the initial updates I'd be very interested to see where they go with this.

Some more Predators, that's about it. The (apparently leaked initially) publicity statement says as much. It's definitely a surprise, but I don't think anyone who's been playing the game for the past four years or so should get too overly excited about them suddenly adding a billion maps-worth of content or anything beyond what we were getting during the end of the game's apparent lifespan a year or two ago.

They need to add some maps or game modes to make it worthwhile.
If they are not confident about a city map, they should make an "in-between", with a half-jungle, half favela or something.
Also, an "Ultimate Edition" would be nice.

I still think another Predator game should be greenlight too. Had a bunch of great Alien games, and Alien content in general, but sorely lacking on the Predator side of things so I'm just hoping that at least the new declaration of support will actually meet expectations.

I always thought much the same actually honestly, why Predator did not get half a dozen films in the nineties instead of just the 2nd one... beyond me, it took twenty years to get a 3rd Predator film.

Much as I've relished these reportings, news, web articles of Alien Romulus the updates, tidbits, rumours, interviews promo it's nice to see something from Predator.

Gonna be busy months of Alien Romulus coverage, terrific way to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Alien and the franchise overall.

Have to wait til July for the supposed production on Dan Trachtenberg's Badlands, and more to come on Predator's future.

It may sound weird to hear but I've came across the occasional fan who were slightly annoyed back in the day Predator had only 2 films and Alien had more with 4, they like Alien fine but wondered why Predator didn't get its parts 3 and 4, this would later change but Alien was still ahead with 2 entries out numbering Predator and held the curiosity that could have the potential of over taking Alien with number of installments considering Predator more varied and versatile for multiple films/adventures to explore.

I'm so stoked this is coming to xbox! All my friends play online on that platform. I pray it's really optimized and excited for updates. I hope they add new maps. It is already in a decent state in terms of content this time around instead of 3 maps at launch. Fingers crossed. What a nice surprise predator and alien fans are eating good lately.

So this whole time, everyone thought the devs just ghosted everyone, and instead were working on the next phase?

I understand not being able to go into details, but isn't there SOMETHING that could have been said to quell the waters of all the anger and speculation? No one could say anything?

Quote from: BigTomM62 on Mar 28, 2024, 06:26:05 PMThis has to be the reason why they wouldn't answer anyone about updates or content for the last year or so.
Seems like the proof is in the pudding. Talks about switching hands and updating contracts must have kept them on red tape to say anything. I know that one of the old community managers, OldKingHamlet, who works on the publishing side of Illfonic now, mentioned that he knew of this but couldn't say a thing about it.
