Does anyone else think they should've use the practical raptor head for the muzzle scenes?

Didn't they?

Many of the scenes actually could have employed practical effects.

Did they not? I couldn't tell.

No, all the shots of the raptors in the... head-clamps (how did they even get them into those?!) seemed to be CGI.

I was really disappointed there wasn't more practical, especially as the previous movies relied so heavily on it. But I guess that's just the way of the world these days.

I think the raptor heads and Apatosaurus used animatronics with CG augmentation (particularly for the eyes and mouths, apparently).

Was anybody expecting one? No Jurassic Park film has had a Directors Cut.

That was the most badass paleontologist I've ever seen. I love the dafuq look he keeps giving Hal.

On science, here's a neat write up on John Ostrom, one of the paleontologists whose work inspired the first novel. It talks about his meeting with Crichton.

Apatosaurus head/neck was the only practical effect seen on the screen. Raptor heads were covered with digital Raptors.

Well they did a damn good job, I thought. I couldn't tell at all. I kept wondering.

Really? I thought the CGI was quite obvious.

I didn't think so. Looked quite lifelike to me.
