My mistake. That was the time of giant bad ass mammals.

Correction: 245 to 65 million years ago. Damn what a successful species. Human beings are like an after credits sequence in the grand scheme of things.

Well if you didn't enjoy the full movie, you must be able to appreciate its teaser trailer.

I saw this before Disney's Tarzan at the cinema and couldn't stop thinking about it. It blew my 10 year old mind and still does...

I wonder how this films visuals hold up in HD 1080p?

No talking dinosaurs in that teaser. History does indeed seem to repeat itself (Walking with Dinosaurs: The Movie.) I remember being able to appreciate Dinosaur for what it was; a really good looking mediocre Disney film. I wish these studios had the balls to make animated films WITHOUT dialogue. Let the animators tell the story. I don't want a bunch of celebrity voices dragging me back to present day when I'm trying to immerse myself in a film that is supposed to be set 25 million years ago.

But they make kid movies for kids and not grown ups and I think sometimes we all have to keep that perspective. (Every now and then the film makers can hit a sweet spot and make it very appealing for all ages.)

As a kid I freaking loved it.
Suprisingly, and unlike a lot of other things where the vestigial child-age love has worn off with time like Harry Potter or Cauliflower cheese, I still do. The visuals as you said still hold ip very strong and the soundtrack is still one of the best overall, and most fitting, of Disney.
The biggest complaint by far is the talking and I think due to my very young age and not seeing the no-talking teaser I didn't expect anything else.

But now with new Walking with Dinosaurs, and the amazingly good quality of the old BBC series...eugh.

Those are not even the worst 'offenders': remember when the Laellynasaura got its head ripped off by the Polar Allosaurus? Or when the Liopleurodon f**king bit in half an Ophtalmosaurus that was aborting? Shit was brutal.

I know, but I couldn't find images of those online.
Also, the first episode was kinda' grim with all the cannabalism going on. Blacklabel summed it up.
...
Christ I wish there was more the 6 episodes.  :-\

Also, looking back with the equally good Walking with Beasts it suprised me there was less graphic violence then in Dinosaurs, when they were going less for 'epic grandeur' or more for "mud, blood and desperation": http://www.abc.net.au/beasts/makingof/musicsound.htm

I though Walking With Beasts seemed more brutal from what I remember.

That baby Gastornis... :-X

The dead Brontothere infant, the shredded turtle, the Megatherium thrashing the Smilodon away, and the Rhinoceros impaling the Neanderthal were pretty brutal, yes. But I remember nothing as graphic as in WWD.

Land of Giants also has some pretty badass fights.

Walking with Monsters brought the gore scale back up with the Gorgonopsid minced the Scutosaurus' throat though. Plus the centipede impalement.

On Beasts again though, one thing I really loved was the use of faux-documentary techniques, like the use of night vision cameras, shaky cam and narration tricks like "Beast X was not seen for several weeks after this." Really immersive stuff.

That scene always disturbed me back when I was a child.
