Yes to both of those. Fincher could turn the franchise into a direct horror-approach, and Jackson could elaborate on setting and creatures to create a very rich and interesting place.

Peter Jackson...possibly. He's very dramatic in his films. JP is action and a little bit of suspense. It's not a melodrama like King Kong or LotR.
