Spartan 3's, ONI and ODSTs had already been covered in the novels. Thier corner of the Halo universe had already been carved out.

As for new gameplay styles...

I think you mean 'venturing out into bad gameplay styles.'

I'll grant you Halo Wars for both points, 'cause I dug that. Never did get General though.

The games aren't all about Chief.

Three games have gone in different directions, one even into a different game style.

Three games that make me die a little inside

So you basically only like the ones with Chief/Cortana?

The other three do a great job at expanding on the universe and venturing out into new gameplay styles.

I judge Halo games on multiplayer.
You don't need new game-play styles, why try fix what's not broken.
The books do a much better job of expanding the universe.

Chief and Cortana make the campaign. Chief takes zero shit and Cortana advises him on the most efficient way to take zero shit.

Ahh, you base on multiplayer. I bade solely on campaign, and multiplayer is just extra.

And when I meant gameplay styles, I specifically meant Wars. I would love more Halo games in other genres, and maybe even another RTS.

And Wars, ODST, and Reach did add quite a bit to the series. We got more insight on the Battle of Earth and the Battle of Reach, our first times seeing Halsey, SIIIs, and Engineers outside the books, a really cool Forerunner Shield World, and plenty of great new characters.

You want some good Spartan 3s, read Ghosts of Onyx.

Only character I found all that interesting in Ghosts of Onyx was Kurt (excluding previous others like Mendez and Halsey).

I loved Ghosts of Onyx.  My favorite book in the series. Kurt was great, too.

I still need to read Cryptum,too.

You can't beat Fall of Reach for me. But all of Nylunds stuff is great, they should give him more control over the games plot.

Don't know why Ash was on my mind, probably because I was just reading something about Mass Effect, and both things have a character of that name. Anyways, yeah, Kurt was the shyit.

My favorite book is kinda tied between The Cole Protocol and The Fall of Reach. I also really like the novelization of Halo, The Flood. I know it gets a lot of flak, but I felt it deviated enough and Zamamee was a fockin' badass. My previous gamertag used to be his name. 

Gotta re-read First Strike though.

Byline helped write Halsey's journal, too. That was a great read, and did great job clearing up a few inconsistencies between the books and games.

He also wrote Halo Wars Genesis, but I haven't really team any of the Halo comics.
