Zeta Reticuli is one of the targeted star systems for NASA's Terrestrial Planet Finder project: http://sco.stsci.edu/tpf_tldb/

Zeta 2 Reticuli is almost 100% identical to our Sun, and scientists believe that the system has a high probability of harboring terrestrial planets.

Coincidentally, many UFO conspiracists think that aliens are actually from Zeta Reticuli: http://www.crystalinks.com/zeta.html

LV-426 is very similar to planetary bodies within our own solar system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_%28moon%29
Titan even looks kind of like LV-426: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/84/Titan_in_natural_color_Cassini.jpg

Knowledge of faster than light travel is slowly being accumulated; a breakthrough could even occur within our lifetime. http://www.nasa.gov/centers/glenn/research/warp/warpstat.html

So, assuming that humanity is able to explore it, when we finally reach Zeta Reticuli and (inevitably) discover an Acheron-like planet in the system, lets hope some nerd at NASA (or "Lockheed-Toyota" or some other private future enterprise, http://scaled.com/) remembers the ALIEN franchise and names the planet "LV-426."

Who wants to be aboard the spaceship "Nostromo" when it makes its discovery?

Heh, if they named it LV-426 i'd be happy.  :D

Even something like "nostromo" would be good.

quite honestly, I'm not 100% sure that the planetoid was in the Zeta II Reticuli star system, There's more than one way to read that statement in the script about them being short of Zeta II Reticuli, since there's more than one way to perceive what the outer rim was.

I'd never ever go there. Purely out of superstition and the fact that I can't go there.  :D

Be funny if they did name it LV:426, then astronauts found a Dierlict space craft, now that would be creepy!!

I'd like them to find a derelict construct that they couldn't work out whether it was a ship or not maybe with a strange machine still working away and an empty urn like structure

What is a way of reading it that tells us LV-426 ISN'T in the Z2R system?
