It has happened before, some characters becoming icons for a community/cause that it either has nothing to do with/ references, or at least only very minorly.
That being said, I can see why some would think that, if only because of the stereotypes that they are thinking of.
Regardless, I don't think it matters really, as who she prefers hardly changes her character and what she does in the movie. Vasquez was bada** and cool that's that.
Nitpick though: The guy thinks Predaliens get stronger, which was only a game mechinc in one game, doubtful that ability is canonical, or even the game itself.
