maybe. These days, not so much. If you want to have a multiplayer game, what's stopping you from just turning on one of the many you've already got? Or just buying the much cheaper 2010 AVP game?
That a multiplayer mode exists will
not be enough to differentiate it from the countless other shooter clones out there.

That's assuming you
want to play it to be scared. The effect should be the opposite if you played as an Alien - empowerment. If you included both options for two different campaigns, you'd have a balance. You could fire one up if you want to be scared and fire up the other if you want to feel empowered.
Of course, after looking through some of the videos, so far, I'm not sure you'll feel terribly frightened when playing as a Marine, anyway, which makes the entire subject irrelevant.
