Oshii loves Alien 3, too.

You know this through your funny psychic powers.. or is there a quote to be read?

One of his commentaries -- Innocence, I believe. He loves the production design, especially.

It could have been repackaged to suit his interpretation... too much kool aid

I've only seen the two Oshii films (love the first one; second is alright), so I can't really compare the different iterations. However, I've been interested in checking out both the anime and the manga at some point in the future.

Major Kusanagi in the new show. Cool design. :) She looks about 90% less sexualized than before.. which is good.. the amount of fanservice in the movie and anime really put me off sometimes.

Yoko Kanno isnt back for soundtrack duties... oh well :/

Cornelius is the new guy for the music...

..and from that little snippet... i approve of the choice :)

Yeah, but Oshii uses it to showcase her "spiritual" disconnect from her fake body, and then subverts fanservice later on with this scene:

All I've heard from Cornelius is his excellent collaborations with Yoko Ono, so this should be interesting.

"Showcasing spiritual disconnect" by showing a nekkid woman fighting people...

that's the most convenient way of showcasing spiritual disconnect ever.

It's even more blatant in the show. (Random Ass closeups from time to time.. Motoko running around in a Gstring...)

^ great scene, story and score... what is she doing in that costume though?

Agree with this

Can't listen to the track... Too far away from civilisation, that design looks better than the solid state. For sure

Actually, in a sneakier subversion, she's actually not naked throughout a lot of the movie -- she's wearing her skintight thermoptic camo that only gives the appearance of her being naked

What I meant was her being naked without any real attention being paid to it shows that she has absolutely no body concience -- it's just the shell of the title she inhabits. It doesn't mean anything to her the way our bodies mean to us. Oshii then proceeds to depict her body as an object, not for any misogynistic sexual purposes (he is probably the most sexless, gender neutral director on the planet -- and even devotes a part of his film The Red Spectacles to a female character giving a monologue about how "the world is set up against women"), but to show that her body literally is nothing more than an object, which can be destroyed with no real damage to her "ghost".

KiramidHead

I love the first movie and the first volume of the manga. I found the second volume of the latter really off putting and never finished it. I haven't seen any of the other adaptations.
