Should they go to prison for something like this? Absolutely. They didn't call the cops, as they should have, and they were dumb enough to do this and get caught.

They broke the law. There's no clause saying you can go around beating criminals, whether they're shoplifters, rapists or murderers.

Whether you like it or not you have to rely on the system, it binds everyone. I'm not saying it's flawless, by absolutely no means.
