There is noting "same old" in a new game. People will buy it to play as and against their favorite sci-fi aliens, not to have canon details explained.

Corporal Hicks

Which they get to do. With a new story.

If the games didn't deviate from the core movies there wouldn't be Aliens versus Predator.

Frankly filmmakers don't give a damn about canon when they make a movie based off a franchise.  They take major things in account, but not much else.

Fans decree what is canon or not based off a general consensus of what they like and don't like.

I get that. I just don't want to see some weird stuff happening in the game. They've said themselves they are sticking with the movies, no need to go further. But they did - royal jelly.
They went beyond the movies when they created the Praetorian (and PredAlien? I don't read comics so I don't know if it existed in any form before the game), but I've never heard anyone complain about that. I'm interested to see what they come up with this time around.

Let's not forget that the whole concept of these games violates the (stupid) canon made by Resurrection.

Both praetorians and predaliens existed in comic books and previous games. Old stuff, really.

Chris!(($$))!

Obviously games will never officially be canon but I clearly players and fans want the quality of the story/game to be good enough so that if it was a movie we would be happy it was canon.

I'd rather have AvP2's and AvP's stories as movies than the actual two little shits we got.

Indeed. I always thought it would fit in well in a movie and was so excited when they first announced AvP. You know the rest.

New article at MCVUK.com.

QuoteAliens vs Predator will be inescapable as Sega launches a full assault on retail to entice fans and newcomers in the run-up to the game's release.

– There will be a three-week TV campaign with ads appearing across a range of terrestrial and satellite channels, including a dedicated promotional weekend supported by Aliens vs Predator.

– A two-month cinema campaign will see 30-second ads shown before leading blockbuster movies.

– Online ads will target specialist and lifestyle websites, with high impact site takeovers and launch zones arranged for key destinations. This will take a dual-phase approach, first promoting the demo and then the game's release.

– A broad print campaign will see both ads and editorial appear in a range of specialist and lifestyle publications. This has been supported by an intensive 12-month PR campaign, which has secured eight front covers for the game.

– Aliens Vs Predator was showcased at the Eurogamer Expo based around a multiplayer event exclusive to the UK, while both single and multiplayer modes were available to play at the SFX Weekender.

I'm gonna guess that the demo will probably come out closer to the release date of the game than we've hoped .L4D's demo was released a week before the game was released unless you had preordered. So unless gamestop performs some sort of 'preorder and get the demo early' deal then were probably looking at a similar release of the demo.

I'm glad to hear that Sega is putting some real weight behind the marketing campaign for AVP. I'm really impressed to hear that they're planning to show ads in theaters.
