Around here, "Wolf Spiders" is somewhat of a general term for all the "big spiders" that show up in the fall. For the most part, they're basically the fat bodied ones that make their webs near gutters, corners and overhangs, so you have to be careful when you go outside or open a window at night. The rest are the spindly legged orange ones that crawl onto the cold surfaces like concrete and die during the night. It's not unusual to find 3 or 4 of them dead every morning in the later months.
We also have "writing spiders" the size of my hand, but they hide in the bushes and tend to be less present in the fall. We've got lots of the ones in that picture, especially with all the fields around here, though the ones here are about 30% bigger. They love to hang out on door frames, so you have to watch out when you open the door to go outside. The worst part is that we've got tons of "fiddle backs" and the occasional black widow.
The humidity has everything down here growing like a jungle so we've got every kind known to man. In the fall, that problem just gets bigger. But, it's nothing a can of raid can't handle. And now that I've thought about this, I won't be able to sleep for 2 or 3 days.
