Called in sick for work today for the first time in three years.  Why do I feel guilty?  The infection in my foot that I've had for two months is getting worse, and working eight hours in steel capped boots isn't helping. 

Anybody else ever feel guilty for calling in sick?

Or is it just me?

Once upon a time. Not anymore. It's a shame we do. It makes it almost seem like we're supposed to be more concerned over our work than our well-being.

I don't know if it's a shame. I think it speaks to our character and dedication, that we want to be reliable and don't take our responsibilites lightly nor do we want to cause inconvenience to our fellow co-workers. Health concerns should still always come first of course, but this guilty character trait tends to go hand in hand with the best employees in my very humble opinion.
