While, yes, has has an ego, I respect that he's passionate about what he does. He gets a pass in my book

Some directors seek to make sci-fi accurate to reality. James Cameron wants to make reality accurate to sci-fi.

Thread title is a bit misleading. It's not his project is it, he just happens to be one of many, who have invested some of their own money into it.

New here, Hi everyone. Don't see how this is going to "add trillions of dollars to gdp"
The fact that he thinks this is going to be successful speaks volumes about his ego. There isn't a lot of info available on this but I hope this is a project for the far future.

Cameron is an egomaniac. That said, somebody has to push government space programs to gear toward the future. You can't just stay here on Earth with the population swelling out of control, and resources getting more and more limited.

It would be much more cost-effective and profitable to advance recycling technologies and energy efficiency to the highest possible levels at any given time.

Space is infinate, which makes resources infinite. We need to go there. The only way for technology to advance in any given field is to have people dabble in field. The government keeps bitching about the cost of Nasa and it's lack of productivity and cuts programs that would actually advance the field. Yet keep their mouths shut when they scrap the landwarrior project and waste millions of dollars.
