I will mostly use it in the car when I go to events so I was thinking to plug-in the usb cable to my stereo leaving the camera in "charge" mode for the whole time of recording.

Probably a good idea. Admittedly mine was a silver edition, and from what I read it seemed to mostly just affect the silvers.
