Paperback. It was about $10 cheaper than the hardcover, and I had an Amazon gift card, so I didn't even pay $4.00 for it brand new

Going to be a long time before I get to read it, though. I'm reading FotR now, then obviously TTT and RotK. After that I was going to do The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and finally The Children of Hurin. Would you recommend that order, or is there a better way to go about it?

The Silmarillion contains, I believe, a less detailed version of The Children of Hurin, so I would suggest Silmarillion, Children of Hurin, then Unfinished Tales. There are a bunch of things in Unfinished Tales that occur at numerous random points in Middle Earth history, so there will be overlap with LoTR, The Hobbit and Silmarillion. So yeah, that last.
