They were great in the original and in AVP. I thought the petals were too thin and curly in Aliens. The undulation in the fourth was pure tripe in my opinion. I hated them. Fortunately, they can be passed off as part of the cross-contamination of DNA, just like the alien roar. I give partial credit to the egg in Alien 3 for being the only one to not be standing on the floor. It shows that it could have been placed there in a hurry, so to speak.
