The procedure was implied to be potentially dangerous to the prize specimen they'd worked so hard to obtain, so why didn't the USM just toss Ripley 8 into the queen's future containment cell and let nature take its course?

Isn't that pretty much what they did to the innocent colonists that the Betty crew abducted?

Ironically just re watched this for first time in years last night and was thinking the same thing, why not just clone her with Queen chest burster. .let it do it's thing and capture it once the little tyke was free of her body?

Too bad they didn't think to similarly prepare the containment cells.

Because of course a couple of millilitres is the same as several litres.

If it was a cost issue..There wouldn't of been one.

The entire project was black ops budget type stuff and the potential revenue from bio weaponry. .New medicines etc from basically being able to farm the Alien species would make the inital investment in making containment cells molecular acid proof even if it just meant coating them with something that neutralised the acid rather than was resistant to it, would of been meant it was chicken feed by comparison.

Doing an operation involving creatures that bleed acid on ship was a dumb too. Just get an isolated instalation on a random rock with better cells to deal with the acid. They weren't even trying to make this work.

Heck they could have put the cells with the aliens on an area isolated which could be isolated from the main compound and have prepared better security measures in case of an alien outbreak. In regards to how an instalation breeding aliens should operate the Cold Forge did much better and it was 200 years before these USM clows.

The point is that they had the foresight and the means.

And if they had a magic crystal ball they wouldn't have put three in one cage.

I can't believe they didn't have the foresight to cut one up before placing it with others, considering a small amount of Facehugger blood went through a few decks of the Nostromo.

Local Trouble

Wait, is anyone actually doubting that the USM knew about the blood?

How else could they be so incompetent?
Never mind for a second that the Alien killed another one of it's brood to escape, what if it even accidentally (being clawed and with a sharp barbed tail) hurt itself? Or flinged acid on the glass, hell- why didn't the three Aliens spit acid on the glass, instead of killing one of their own?

Huggs

I just always assumed this was an illegal operation that was dependent upon mobility and secrecy. That it was on a ship made sense, and that they were forced to take certain chances with the blood was just part of the deal.

They had to operate outside of regulated space.

Of course they knew about the acid.  They obviously wouldn't have expected an Alien to be butchered so they could escape.  As evidenced from Gediman's reaction.

So with the USM Auriga being a medical research vessel,  with numerous labs, containment cells, military personnel and an advanced A.I in place to monitor systems and the Earth having already been hit by the Lacerta Plague ( an unknown epidemic that was mentioned Call)....

Standard protocol if shit went down on any such medical research ship was not to have the A.I self destruct the engines, or plot a course into the sun or deep space, just bring the damn thing back to dock on Earth?

Not even hold in quarantine in orbit around it?.

The labs and holding pens for any biological material couldn't even be isolated and jettisoned in case of an emergency?

And nobody thought to put in Acid Resistant panels or glass, yet ship is supposed to have extra thick hull plating and we know it has a stealth drive.

That's before you get to fact they did not need Ripley alive for further study, her corpse could of joined the others in the statis tanks..Queen was the prize they wanted.

SM

Such a number of unfounded assumptions in a single post is rare.
