To answer your question: I don't think the filmmakers are super interested in every single nook and cranny of the universe and making them like established consistent rules, they're more about what works for the movie.

Also, how do you know that Hudson was referring to the exact same gun and the actor didn't just simply made a mistake and patted the wrong prop?

At the end of the day, it's a machine gun attached to a SteadiCam harness and a targeting sensor that they thought was futuristic enough for the 80s.

i just don t see a belt feed meganism attached to either drake or vazquez s guns. where do they store the rounds?

agreed . movie makers don t  explain and try to make everything work

BUT

when ripley asks goreman what the pulse rifles fire he does refer to caseless bullets. i was just wondering where the bullets were stored.

in both guns then

just curious.

maybe hudson was patting a different kind of weapon.

who knows.

The particle beam phalanx is not in the APC.

The pulse rifles have magazines in their handles, they're seen being loaded several times. Hicks demonstrates it to Ripley.

The smart guns are drum fed, not belt fed. The drum is on the side of the gun.

Particle beam phalanx is never shown. Sounds like it should be ship or vehicle mounted though, from the naming convention.

Pulse rifles fire caseless slugs, and load in the same place most rifles or SMGs load. Because the props are literally modified tommy guns.

As SiL says, the support weapons in that video clip are Smartguns, and are fed from a drum magazine on the side of the weapon.

Also fun fact; the caseless ammunition is 100% seen ejecting cases when fired in the movie.

There's more to modern caseless ammunition than just a solid bullet.

They certainly look like propellent casts in this photo.

noted!

love the design of the m56. its beautiful.

checked the 85 script just now. apparently what hudson tapps on the apc is the servo motor controls for the turret gun. i think that s the one they use in the 83 script to shoot the alien that stings gorman. maybe that s the PBP?

much obliged folks
