Can we use gifs as avatars here or not?

I am new here and i am just wondering could we use gifs as our avvys or not. A mod told me that we can't but i saw two members here having them as avatars, Could someone clarify with me about this matter as i am kinda confused

No, GIFs aren't allowed. It says so in the rules.

Because the last thing I or any sane person wants to see is distracting images bouncing all over the screen which takes my attention away from what I'm reading.

It's common sense.

On some forums (GameGossip, for example, when it was around), you couldn't even select an avatar nevermind a signature.

I dont know why but on the forum i have i like having a few newbs there they dont bother me but when u have a swarm of em yea theres a problem. just threaten them with the banhammer when avpr is released
