Could there have been a living Queen aboard the Derelict?

They may have since died, or be hibernating too. If they can hibernate, who knows for how long?

Hmm... if Kane went down, saw the eggs, and didn't get close, would aliens come out of every possible hiding place, that is, anyplace looking gigerish, which is the whole thing, and grab him?

Once again you must remember that alien was made before any concept of the queen was ever established. Therefore it is moot to argue how the eggs are placed aboard the derelict versus in other films where a queen is known to be the source.
However one isn't necessary to account for the eggs, provided that the space jockey race had the technology to safely place them there without them opening up and havng a facehugger attach itself to them. But without that it seems unlikely they could just pick up eggs and place them without them instinctively opening up. When Kane puts his hand near the egg it reacts, so i doubt they could be moved without some container of some sort or other technology, perhaps making the eggs dormant temporarily, inhibiting their reaction to potential hosts.
