After a beautifully animated, painted opening, we are slowly introduced to a few characters and the pace doesn't pick up much. However, this works to the show's advantage. I was not once bored or uninterested. Bleak but beautifully mysterious. It's off to a good start for me.

Doctor Who Season 1 "The Edge of Destruction", "The Brink of Disaster"

Of the three Classic Who serials I've watched so far, this one was definitely my favourite. Even with the quite evident shoestring budget and single-take shots, this worked immensely well in creating a tense atmosphere. The most absorbing and attention grabbing one yet, and (unlike the first two) it didn't feel dragged out or overlong. Wonderful piece of old school television.

Things get even darker and stranger -- an unrecognizable Lucy Lawless makes a cameo, GJ returns albeit briefly, someone dies, Johnno gets naked a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Like, penis flopping around a lot.
