Not necessarily. They are adding a story to the canon but that doesn't automatically mean the special edition is now canon over the TC. They borrowed elements from all sorts of places, including the giger lurker's appearance without the dome.

The xenomorph scampering down the Pilots 'telescope' looks cool. At least, the Pilot looks 'normal'....for now >.>

it gives me the creeps seeing those aliens dead in the pool of water in that green lighting. Makes you think that one of them are just laying there pretending to play dead, before they just spring to life to get you.
