It's called "upcoding" and it's not new. It can happen in any facet of healthcare (i.e. rehab, psychiatry, etc.) Whatever asshole hospitalist that is upcoding probably was doing it a year ago and will continue doing it despite it being illegal. There isn't reliable evidence that shows hospitals are rushing to code patients inappropriately as COVID.
