ADI beefed up the hands in AVP to make them formidable to the Predators, according to the Art of AVP book, though they had big floppy-ish hands in AR.

Only in Alien 4. AVP and AVPR re-used the fleshy molds but they should have been, logically, Giger-ish, biomechanical. It's ADI's ugly take on the Alien.
