It would be better if they just animate slash animation, try to do it with your hand, its slash, not hit... the animations is, swing, it stops and then continues.
That's why it looks stiff. There are still some bugs, like when performing trophy kills you will glide to enemy, when you penetrate with tail you can hit another enemy but the game wont recognize that.
