I have a feeling this will be the Fassbender/Waterston trilogy if not just the Fassbender trilogy.
This isn't going against your comment, but you brought up something that I feel needs to be addressed. I have no clue how in the hell they are going to squeeze 2 more movies out of this. In the initial announcement for Covenant they said that Covenant was part of a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus. Fox's marketing has distanced themselves from this and now you see a lot of statements from Scott saying that they plan to do a brand new trilogy of films. Just how in the hell could they possibly stretch this story any more? A prequel of films starting with Prometheus, continuing with Covenant, then one more and then Alien would be logical. It seems that a few things are going on here. First, they are wanting to maximize their return by making as many sequels as possible. Two, the mystique of the creature is going to be stripped down even more than it already has if they continue to pursue a "it takes several iterations for the Alien that appeared in Alien to be created" narrative—I much prefer the Alien to be a mystery and not something that can be, excuse the pun, merely engineered.
I, for one, don't think that Ripley should be the end-all of the narrative involving the Alien. There are a lot of comments on here, and elsewhere, that want to see a continuation of Shaw's story. I haven't read any of the spoilers, and I don't intend to, but I would like the story to focus on her and not abandon it entirely. Noomi Rapace brings something unique, just like Sigourney did, to her character and a certain charm that could carry more films. At least I hope this is the case.
