As bad as their status is, species have been known to recover from even fewer populations.  Not too keen with Spain's idea of releasing rabbits though.  That just screams ecological disaster.

Ecological disaster is right.  I'm sure Spain has heard the term "multiplying like rabbits"...those things are breeding machines.
