There isn't an director alive that can bring out talent in Rousey.
She has the ability to glower. That's it. Gina Carano has the same problem.
As for SJW agenda, Ripley is already a woman, so I don't see how that works. Displaying the evils of crony capitalism (or more broadly, a too powerful, overreaching authority) is hardly promoting socialism in that series either.
The problem with many modern films is they spend too much time telling, rather than showing. That's where the agenda gets annoying for many. Ripley showed her growth, leadership, and strength, and did so in an organic way.
