Holy shit. Is that... Is that the music from the fake gay monks trailer Robert Downey Jr. did as part of Tropic Thunder?

Hahaha I couldn't stop laughing as soon as I heard it lol. Also that trailer is for two different films. they really screwed the pooch on that one

Avengers: Infinity War
Wow. really great. they got the balance between everything just right. Now just have to get through two more films before the next one

Enjoyable. Cheesy. Malin Akerman really chews it. And Jeffrey Dean Morgan has a lot of fun. Oh and the Rock is The Rock

Saw that yesterday, better than Jumanji, is still quite boring though at least for me, until the end when they start smashing up stuff.

Avengers: Infinity War

Very long film but congrats to Marvel (from someone who is more a DC fan), they finally nailed the large ensemble blockbuster perfectly.

After the disappointment of Civil War (for me personally) I found this very enjoyable and they got the balance just right - even the humour which felt more natural rather than over the top or wrongly toned (Thor Ragnarok for example). Pratt & Hemsworth macho posturing was hilarious.

Bravo. Well done.

Spoiler
The only thing that was slightly disappointing was that the end act deaths of so many key characters felt cheap as you just know it's temporary until the next film. Thanos (Brolin) stole the film for me.

Black Panther (2018)
Not bad. A little better than average but still your standard Marvel flick.

That's where Jeffery Dean Morgan and Malin Akerman saved it, in the early half of the film

See now I like that trailer, fits more of what we kind of got in the end.

Was the film completed before they did reshoots and rewrites?

Let Us Prey

Solid horror movie, Liam Cunningham (the Onion Knight) with an excellent performance, blood and guts galore.  I strongly recommend it

The Void

Awesome, with great gore effects and a few genuine scares.

The Ritual

Not bad, well written characters and solid performances, it was just lacking more of a Horror element at times, and the final third was bonkers

There was a disastrous test screening, so I would assume so. The things I know they changed for sure was the fight with the Mother, and the Leader with the horns was added entirely just to give Buliwyf someone to fight one on one with.

The Godfather
The Godfather Part II

Was that Harry Dean Stanton escorting Pentangeli? Never noticed him before.

The Godfather Part III

This is definitely the most flawed of the three, but I think it's not quite as bad as it's often made out to be. The last half or so once the action shifts to Sicily and Rome, especially that climax in the opera house, is pure poetry.

The new star wars movie. The Last Jedi,  I think. I've seen the originals once, but couldn't get into it. Saw the one with Liam Neeson, and couldn't even make it through the movie. But, it had been awhile since I saw a movie in this series so I gave it a shot. Wow, what a stinker. Both the guy playing Ford's son and Boyega shouldn't be allowed near movies again. No offense to folks who dig em. It's just not my cup of tea. The picture was fantastic though, great looking Blu-ray.

The first 3 they made are pretty good, especially if you grew up in the 80s and was into that shit.  Not big into them now, that I'm older, too juvenile.

Totally agree. I didn't see it for years, then when I finally did I didn't get all the hate. Sure, it's the weakest of the three, but a bad film it ain't. Andy Garcia was just fantastic and I'm gutted they binned the fourth film about him.

Conversely, I honestly found Part II to be kinda overrated. The first one is far better.

I think the biggest problem with Godfather Part 3 is that it doesn't feel as informed as its forebears. For the first one in particular, Mario Puzo drew heavily from his sources in journalism, and a bit of his own upbringing as an Italian New Yorker with military service in World War 2. As a result, the film feels very real, drawing from actual accounts and experiences. Same goes for Part 2 to some degree. By the time Part 3 came around, Puzo had been out of journalism for nearly three decades, and it doesn't have the same feel of an inside track. By all accounts that film was made as a cash-in rather than because it was a story that needed to be told, and in my opinion you can really feel it.

Agreed with Hu that Part 2 is a bit overrated. It's more of a character study rather than the character journey of the first film, there's not much of an arc. Just deeper levels of exploration, plus the contrast with his father's relatively optimistic early years (which IIRC was originally planned for the first movie?). Also kind of a serpentine plot that can be tricky to follow.

Mafia stories can be fantastic, but it feels like there's one entry that absolutely dominates each period, and relegates everything else. Godfather did that for the Italian-American mafia golden age, leaving others like Once Upon A Time In America feeling a bit pointless despite their artistic merit. The Sopranos did the same for the post-government-crackdown period, retroactively curbstomping Goodfellas.

For a while it felt like there was no point in touching mafia stories after The Sopranos. We're in a new period now though, with globalisation changing the nature of organised crime. McMafia has tackled it and feels like something very fresh and new, but I think we'll see a really definitive take on the subject at some point in the next few years.
