Fairly certain that's a misinterpreted quote and Scott was talking more about Blade Runner.

While shooting Alien: Covenant, the four-time Oscar nominee was also producing and executive producing other film and television projects including the sequel Blade Runner 2049, which stars Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling.

"If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six," he says. "I'm not going to close it down again. No way."

Having nearly filmed The Martian in Australia before heading to Hungary, Scott came to shoot here after meeting foreign minister Julie Bishop in New York. That was the spark for the federal government to make top-up grants that attracted both Alien: Covenant and Thor: Ragnarok to Australia.

He says he could do six more films because he wants to get back into the series. In reality he's only doing two more after Covenant. So unless he pulls a Cameron and decides to add 3 more to the list, we're only getting two more Alien films from Scott.

I think that's a mistake. BOM doesn't mention a push. And the 12th is also the week after Guardians Of The Galaxy. So yeah, probably just a mistake.

Edit: Digital Spy is where the article originated from, and they're from the UK. Covenant releases in the UK on the 12th. So us folks from the US still have to wait an additional week.
