Wow my first post, so what better a topic
I am a young film director and Alien/Aliens is such a huge influence on why i chose the career i did. I have watched the movies hundreds and hundreds of times
I remember watching the first Alien film when i was v young, maybe 6 or 7. I was blown away at every aspect of the film. The story, the acting, the characters, the set's, the thought behind the Alien. I think this was one of the first times in a film they really put a lot of effort into giving the creature life and character (same goes for predator but less so). Laying eggs inside of you, the alien eating it's way out of your chest, acid for blood! i mean that's thought and detail. That's why the "Alien" has to be one of the greatest villan's/creatures in film history. I loved Alien and thought wow how can you beat that?
Fast forward a couple years later and i am sitting down watching Aliens(The second film)/the directors cut with my dad. My Dad is a real hard bastard but on this occasion he let me stay up and watch Aliens with him. I remember waking up the next day only being about 9 or 10 and i said to myself lying in bed "What the f**k did i just watch last night". If i was blown away by the first one i almost had a convulsion after watching this one.
As film making goes one of the hardest things is creating a sequel as good as the first. I can think of a few exceptions....Terminator 2, The Empire Strikes Back , The Godfather Part 2 and ...........ALIENS! I take my hat of to James Cameron because of the circumstances he was under. If you've watched the making of the movie you no what i am talking about. He just took it to the next level. I still think Alien is better shot and the art direction is better. But Aliens just oozes soul and character. It's so fast paced compared to the first film. I mean really they're two different genre's....the first being a horror/slasher and the second being a bare knuckle action film. The first two films are just incredible and i could blab on and on about how good they are. I remember watching Aliens for the first time like it was yesterday the memory is etched in my mind!
As i was reading some of the post's on this topic i was shocked to see many of you took interest in the franchise due to AVP. I feel AVP,AVP2 and even Resurrection put a blotch on this fine series of films. If i could invent a time machine i would go back and stop them from ever being made........and all the new star wars films........Terminator 3,Terminator Salvation......oh and the Matrix sequels
