I've been reading the David Lynch and Mark Frost script One Saliva Bubble, and you can really tell that they mined a lot of the humorous elements of Twin Peaks from it. There's even an offhand reference to a so far unseen character named Gordon Cole.

And there's even a little of The Return in there as well.
