Looks somewhat like the little glass tubes the goo floats in.

Was this featured in the new Alien Memory doc?

I don't recall off hand, I'm afraid. It's one I had saved from the Anthology.

Ahhh that's where I recognise it from then. I was watching Memory just before scrolling through and thought I had seen it before and for some reason I thought it may have been from the doc.

Another reason I really dig PJ's LOTR is the bigiatures and miniatures working so successfully to bring the world to life.

Yes! You know what I also love in those films? All the lowtech forced perspective used during filming. So creative!

Love seeing miniatures in films - even the less successful attempts - better than CGI.

Seeing physical models constructed from wood & metal frames is so much more satisfying than the CGI equivalent on a computer screen, beginning as wire frame graphics.

I'm by no means a CGI-hater, but I do think wonky practical effects retain a certain a charm that wonky CGI simply doesn't.

Indeed. I agree. It's the craftsmanship of an old art form I suppose.
